dd (noonans syndrome gross motor visual acuity issues hypotonia and speech delay)
just passed her 3yo development check!!!!!!!!!!
2 weeks ago she just started talking words, proper words, then put them together, she in the 2 yrs and 360 days that we have been talking away to her has learned (without us even knowing) all her colours, shapes and can even count to 13 (the number of stairs we have)
She cannot jump but she can skip!
I know she has serious challenges but to see reward for all your work when you never thought it was goign to come
She is 3 on saturday and I am so so proud of my little girl who will let no one tell her she can't do something!!!!
she may only be 24lbs and 85 cms but shes cute and smart and all MINE!

FANTASTIC

That is so exciting. It just goes to show that you reap the rewards eventually for all the repetitiion of language. I hope we get similar results at some point...

Can I just check, are you saying that she went from single words to sentences in a couple of weeks? And had she been completely non-verbal until then?

pages she wasn;t completely non verbal but had very limited usage
yaya for water
mama
dada
and that was it, she would not even attempt words, although she would repeat simple sounds - then one day actually about 4 days after I started giving her eye q oil - coincidence or not I'm not sure...
her understanding has always been excellent- I think thats why SALTs have been reluctant to intervene
when she realised she could say words, then she progressed very quickly- changed from mama to mummy etc, then to mummy toast then to mummy toast jam please and juice.
dh and I are asking her all the time to say yes and no as we are still agog at the sound of it from her.
remind me of this post in the future when I tell you all she never shuts up

Sounds like her comprehension was/has been a lot better than my DS, but I still live in hope...your post has really inspired me to keep talking away!

I know pages I often feel more like a threapist than a spontaneous mum, but now I see how it has helped and am relieved beyond words I bothered to do it!
I enquired with dd's paed about feeling like training as a SALT after managing to crack this and she said sadly I would be disheartened by the majority of parents who don't try or care, she said 80% of the language problems she deals with are familial and situational
Very sad really

Lovely news PIffle - what a clever little dd. You must be thrilled.

Wow, this is fantasic piffle. You must be so happy, enjoy it!

Saker · 18/10/2005 22:49

Fantastic . There's lots of happy news around today.

That is sad, Piffle. If your DD has passed her devt check does that mean she has no SN? And if she does, do you have a dx?

piffle · 19/10/2005 13:22

she still has sn because her sight is quite badly affecting her she cannot walk very well as she cannot perceive depth, holes, bumps that sort of thing, plus she still needs quite intensive physio for hypotonia and there are some cognitive and speech issues to work through
she also still has the heart issue although we're hopeful thats going to be ok as its not increased (pulmonary valve stenosis) in the last year at all...
the one thing about Noonans Syndrome is that things can change quite suddenly, health wise which is horrible to live with.

Sorry to hear about the health issues, Piffle, but she sounds a bright little button and I long for the day my DS asks me for jam on his toast. He did, however, look at me and say "gob" last night. Not sure where that came from. Maybe he'll add the word "big" in front of it tonight...

pages
my dd is getting nearer and nearer to saying bugger.....
