Alton Towers - changes for disabled and carers

If you go to Alton Towers read on:

On the Merlin Annual Pass Facebook site people are saying that you now at Alton Towers:

  • have to pay for carers (were free now they only get a discounted ticket).
  • have to pay £5 for parking even if you have a disabled blue badge (was previously free for blue badge holders).
  • the wristband system has changed so you can't do major rides together, so it's now like the Thorpe Park/Chessington systems where there is a time limit between going on your next major ride.

I hope this is not the case, it doesn't say anything like that on their website. We have just got tickets through Merlins magic wand.

The carer thing was the same when I worked there. It's only on the Annual Pass you got the free carer's pass. If that's changed, it's not good, as the carer's pass was a blank one so it was transferable, although that may still be the case.

The ride thing, not great. Although some will say it makes the system fairer.

People are now saying on the Merlin Annual Pass Facebook site they went to Warick Castle today (this is another Merlin attraction) and they too have started to charge £5 for parking for disabled Blue Badge holders!

What's the betting it's going to happen to other Merlin theme parks sometime soon?!

Other people have also said they went to Alton Towers today and they are disabled and had to pay for parking and wait the same amount of time for the rides!
