Hello everyone.

Does any one know of any independent school that cater for SEN kids (ASD) in South London/Kent. The only one we could find so far is Riverston in Greenwich. we do not want special schools.

Please any suggestions?

It's not independent but I was very, very impressed with how Bexley Grammer dealt with ASD children on my teaching practice. (the staff room reveals all flaws lol!). I learnt a massive amount I had no idea at the time, I'd eventually need for my own child. It's a boys school.

You do have to pass an entrance exam to get in, and standards are high so it's only suitable for children bright enough to be material for places like Dulwich College if they weren't ASD.

Dulwich College, Alleyns and JAGS have all been traditionally good for dyslexia and dyspraxia, (but not duscalcula - go figure).

I recc'd four actually, but - they are all good for different SEN needs and only for high academic achievers.

You haven't mentioned the age, sex or the nature of the disability, all of which make a massive difference as to what might be appropriate for your child.

is it priamry you are looking for? if so there is a good school in Avery Hill called Alderwood. It is a mainstream school but has an ASD unit within it, the children attend the mainstream unit but for specific lessons they may find more difficult or for social skills etc, they will work in the ASD unit.

I am qualified teacher and principal ( pending Sept 11) with 10 years specialist experience. Would you like to ask me about a range of "in between" options that are not fully specialised but offer an interim option while your child is preparing to return or start a mainstream educational setting?

well my DC is in year 6 and currently LEA refused our preference of sch with ASD unit, instead gave a closer school without this input, infact just got the ASD DX recently. Now sch with ASD unit says they cant cope, no other sch in LEA with ASD provision - now looking at independent - someone mentioned riverston and wickham court not sure - any experiences anyone or any other mainstream that has experience and provision of ASD , please help.
Education yes - please help - going to tribunal soon. any independent or mainstream will do - looking at London/kent.

I have heard good reports of Thames Christian College (near Clapham Junction)from a teacher who used to work there: good support for sen, smaller class size, good value added, reasonable fees.
