I know I have another thread and this is part of DS1's dx I haven't touched on but I guess is important to deal with.
As well as AS he has sensory issues. His major problem is sheets and quilt covers. I know this sounds strange. But he cannot cope with the creases these 2 things create when he is laying in bed.

Has anyone got any ideas on what I could use on his bed other than a sheet/quilt cover.

Also on the advice of a social worker I would like to make his room relaxing for him what could I do?

I am at a loss for ideas,

sheets there are fitted once made of not cotton (not sure made of what) but like the material babies cots are made from so that would be much better as they are stretchy not sure about quilt cover tho unless like some As children perhaps he would be better with blankets also some DC prefer them as they are heavy and give a sfafer warm feeling lighting i was advised to use a dimmer switch as my DS likes his light on but been trying to turn it lower n lower gradually or what about coloured light bulbs a nicer warm glow perhaps hth

oh sorry lots of erors in my typing Blush i forgot to add my DS likes lots of soft pillows they are comfy but also if hes upset and goes to his room he can hit them ( a little self expression bless)Wink

When he stays at my mums he has a very heavy blanket that even when he is sitting on the sofa there he has on him. So that may just be a very good idea.

I will have to look for the sheets as that could be a soloution.

Light yes he likes them but he likes low lights nothing too bright...so maybe colours will be better.

Flanellette (not sure thats the right spelling) are stretchy.Or what about a sleeping bag.

TheLadyEvenstar · 15/02/2011 16:04

sleeping bags he hates as they are too silky

But am looking for flannelette sheets now.

How about using a fleece sleepsuit? DD2 is 7 and uses one every night over her PJs. She can't go under her quilt because of the troll who lives at the bottom of it.

letsblowthistacostand · 15/02/2011 16:22

I, um, have this issue myself. You need a bottom sheet, top sheet and at least 2 heavy blankets. Sheets should be 100% cotton, I prefer 300 thread count or above (princess emoticon) but the most important thing is that they be stretched very, very tight on the bed. Then you can slip in between the sheets and because the blankets are so heavy, when you turn over nothing moves. I would NOT recommend jersey or flannelette sheets as they stick to you when you try to roll. He might also like to sleep in lighter pjs or nothing at all, pjs create friction and wrinkles.

I know it's bloody expensive but if you can get your hands on some Ralph Lauren sheets all your troubles will be over.

TheLadyEvenstar · 15/02/2011 16:28

LBTTS, looks like a trip to ebay ralph lauren is in order then Wink

He is too old for a fleece sleep suit i think as he is almost 13...

If you or anybody you know is going to the States (esp NYC) have them pick some up for you. Spare no expense, they are truly wonderful and I have never seen anything to match in this country. Well, except DH's extra-posh godmother's ancient lace-edged perfectly ironed linen sheets but I think they'd be even more expensive. Hopefully ebay will have some!!

TLE, I can make you a fleece sleepsuit - or whatever fabric you like - and a weighted blanket if you want one. Flanelette is like soft brushed cotton, and is lovely. I've just chopped a flanelette undersheet up to make dribble bibs Grin it was £3 in TK Maxx!

Message me if you like, I have a sideline making decent clothes for SN kids (next big project is a tailcoat in fleece for a teen to join in at a fancy dress party!)

TheLadyEvenstar · 16/02/2011 17:45

Purple, I have spoken to DS1 and he said he would wear them and whichever is the softer material he would prefer

I reckon a flannelette sleepsuit would be best as fleece is water resistant and could get horribly sweaty if he over heats Smile I'm off for the next could of days, will do some research Smile

TheLadyEvenstar · 16/02/2011 22:37

Thanks!!! yes he does get rather hot a lot of the time.....how many times I have found him laying on a soaking wet pillow I can't count.

Lol, I'll look into it :) Feet or no feet?

TheLadyEvenstar · 17/02/2011 00:01

no feet, he hates his feet covered.

For DS, if his duvet is in the wash or it is too warm for it then we just give him a fleece blanket to pull over himself (no top sheet. He doesn't like being tucked in and prefers something he can just throw off (and often sleeps on top of his top covers iykwim). They were fairly cheap and wash easily, dry really quickly and don't crease so would something like that help? If they were big enough then one could even be used as a "bottom" sheet.

TheLadyEvenstar · 17/02/2011 15:56

Star yes that would be great, I used to forever tell him to make his bed, put the sheets on etc always ended up in tears when I did it myself. Now I know why Sad
