I posted on here last week after a meeting with the SENCO at my 5 year old DS's school!

She advised me the school wouldn't be applying for Statutory Assessment as she had got advice from an advisory teacher who said it would be turned down straight away as County Inclusive Resource wasn't involved.....but gave me the forms and said do it myself and the school would support me!!

However, when letting his school teacher know that they would not be applying for a statement she seemed a bit shocked!!

Luckily as DS is still in Reception he still comes under Early Years and the advisory teacher for them has said there is sufficient evidence to apply and that they would be doing this!!

Excellent news the school will be doing but annoying they cannot advise you the same!!!

Strange as it may seem, as you'd think they'd listen to the 'professionals' at school, LAs often take statutory assessment requests more seriously when they are from parents. May be why you got some mixed messages. You need support from advisory teaching service, SaLT, Paed and EP if possible. Best of luck. It all seems to take ages and when they are so young every day counts.

Just ignore the school - you're doing the right thing by applying yourslef.

Are you applying yourself as well or just letting school do it? If the later I would strongly suggest you also apply in your own right.
