Should nursery be doing speech therapy?

Ds attends a nursery within a school. He has been under SaLT since last Oct with some one on one and now group therapy sessions.

I have always kept his nursery up to date and passed along copies of the work i have been given to do at home, so they can also do it at nursery.

It appears however they have not been doing any of his work with him, but they do phonics most days!! Oh well thats ok then!

His teacher has said the SLT is between us and the SaLT as school have had no formal instructions and he wasn't referred by them or assessed at nursery. Is this really the case? All work has been passed along via me.

His teacher informed me she is not a SaLT (join the club i'm not one either but still manage his work at home!). I have been told she will try and do it with him and if she struggles she will ask the headteacher if she can borrow a TA with SLT training to do so. Very vague commitals there.

I am awaiting a call from our local parent partership to ask their advice on this matter. I called IPSEA recently but they weren't hugely helpful apart from telling me he should be on SA+ when he starts full time after easter. I guess without a statement its easy for them to get away with fobbing me off if they decide they cba to do it?

Not sure where i stand right now so any advice would be welcome.

I would call a meeting with the teacher and the SALT and try and work out a strategy to move things forward

Thanks. His SaLT asked me last wk if they were doing the work, i thought they were, silly me :( She said she would ring them after the group sessions finish to tell them where hes up to, that he will be getting transferred to the the school side of SaLT and to give them a gentle nudge. I'm hoping when i tell her on Friday they aren't doing anything she might give them a ring straight away and back it up with a letter.

Dont rely on that happening. You need to take a bit of control on this one. Call the SALT and explain what you intend to do and why (without badmouthing the teacher though as sometimes the professionals like to stick together). Explain you want everyone to share information and so you are all working together. Good luck!
