Have read down all posts. A lot are putting SN asside to their comments. I dont think it is a major attack on SN but more just mums talk on how much you do for your baby and how much the health visitor or professional can bombard you with whats right a and whats wrong.

However this quote

But to give them "language skills" you just have to talk to them!

got to me a bit. But that is the NT crowds assumption of that is all you got to do Confused

Anyhow posted on it :)

I didn't see it as an attack as such, more of a "well things only go off kilter if you are doing something wrong" which grated somewhat Hmm.
Anyway, pleased that it appears I've misinterpreted at least part of it.

This thread is an attack on 'Baby Einstein' and other products marketed at parents. It is also telling parents who have no reason to worry about their children's development to stop worrying.

I think the message is fine and needs to be said.

Of course it doesn't apply to our kids, but if parents whose kids didn't have problems worried less - it would help our kids. ( ie in an ideal world parents with concerns would be taken seriously - because other parents wouldn't have concerns...)

Yes bullet I can see exactly where you are coming from. Its a sensitive subject (for which I am always on the defensive). When I read a post I try to remember that half of the mums on the main forum bit have no idea in there ideal world because they havent had to face the issues of disability and SN and so they lack in understanding. Also I am looking at the first post as possibly a mother that is feeling vulnerable in how she is being told to bring up her child.

However some of their comments are a pile of rubbish I have to say :o

tabulahrasa · 14/02/2011 13:32

oh

I read the OP for that last night and then wandered off, lol

I took it as all these people stressing about whether they should do baby signing and doing flash cards are wasting their time...

typically developing children don't need all that, they do just pick things up and they don't do any better if you teach them to read before they start school, etc. etc.

turns out it wasn't that at all, they were talking about walking and talking and potty training

I prefer what I thought it was to start with, rofl

I think it's v. important that parents don't frantically rush or hothouse their babies.

But I wouldn't interpret any of the messages on the thread on the main site as attacks on kids with SN. I'd like to think that all mums know that kids with SN have SN, not bad mums. We all know it's complex.

Now all we have to do is persuade the powers that be... I can't count how often I've been insulted or lied to by people trying to get out of providing services by blaming me or my children...

I tend not to get involved with these types of threads. I wonder if anyone has actually changed their fundamental beliefs from reading an oppositional comment?
I think that there will always be people that live in their nice NT lives that have no wish to understand that not everyone has this lifestyle. I would not like to live in their world either - i like all shades of grey.
We met with friends at the weekend, and another of her friends was there. OTT PFB PITA mum of the year award should wing its way. All over the poor wee soul - following its every move - playing 'educational' games - and ignoring all the rest of the very amenable guests.
Me - i enjoyed myself - my DS enjoyed themselves. Who is missing out? Wink

omg ignorance is bliss they need that quote walk a mile in my shoes sorry i did get agrivated a bit at some comments, i dont agree about them understanding that kids with SN have SN not bad mums though not in my experience they dont sadly and i really dont think they have a clue how complex it is, ive even been made before my DS had his dx by the profeshionals to feel im either a bad mum or just fussing , ive two other NT DC one doing law so it does make you a bit angry when someone says , to give them "language skills" you just have to talk to them! but some comments were true too i guess we have to ignore the uninformed ones
