I knew she was brewing something but this morning found a fair number of spots.

Gave her antihistamine straight away and am just off to the chemist to buy something to dab on now that DP is home from work.

Trouble is knowing her she won't let me anywhere near her with stuff to dab onHmm.

Oh well will give it a try.

oh poor thing, hope she doesn't get it too bad. Isn't it oats you put in an old sock under running bath water supposed to be good?

Thecarrotcake · 12/02/2011 16:00

Bigcar got there before me :)

oats in a sock in the bath.. It's a godsend.. Also lotsof cold jelly or similar if she'll go for that..

And goodluck :(

Thecarrotcake · 12/02/2011 16:01

Jelly is to eat not for the bath btw :o

Oh no! At least you're getting it out of the way. Hope it's as painless as possible.

growlybear · 12/02/2011 16:21

calamine lotion is good too

Marne · 12/02/2011 16:37

Poor thing, both my dd's had it before christmas, dd2 was quite poorly but didn't have too many spots, she was happy for me to put cram on her (we used calamine cream as it was easier than the lotion), dd1 was not as poorly but was covered with spots, she wouldn't let me near her with the cream, i did manage to put one lot of cream on her by telling her 'i needed to count her spots (to see if she could beat the world record) and i needed to mark the ones i had counted with cream' Grin. Both of them were very good and didn't pick. Good luck, hope she's better soon xx

Thanx everyone, got some calamine/aqueous cream, the pharmacist assured me it has no smell. She has allowed me to put some on her body but not her neck or face.

Will try the oats for the bath but jellys a no go here.
She will take an antihistamine tablet luckily, we had to train her in the summer due to bad hayfever and she hated the liquid.

She actually seems les ill today than she has been since wednesday, fingers crossed she doesn't get it too badly.

Thanx again everyone I knew I could count on you for some great ideas.Smile

We did the oats in the sock thing and she coped well wih it. Felt sick when I put the cream on again but took piriton at bedtime no problem.

Have kept her in a thin long sleeve top and leggins today zzzzz so she can't see the spots, she is stressing over them when she sees them but is ok wen they are out of sight. I turned the heating down because she had a bit of a temp.

She is staying positive and is delighted that she gets an extra week off school.

See what tomorrow bringsSmile.

Oh you poor things.. yes we used oatmeal in sock in bath and dd wouldn't let us calamine cream up neck or face either.. Short finger nails too.. Also we tried homeopathy remedy sulphur for the itching which really helped dd and she stopped itching straight away almost, however didn't work for ds who got it next.. not sure why. Hope it passes through asap with her still feeling positive about being at home rather at school!

intothewest · 13/02/2011 18:11

Not come across this yet with ds-but useful hints to file away

Hope she is better soon -I was also going to say would she put the cream on her face herself?

Al1son · 13/02/2011 19:46

Bicarb in the bath is great as per previous comments but be careful.

My DD spent hours in there with us topping up with hot water now and then because it gave her so much relief.

HOWEVER after two days I realised that it had bleached the bath! It was a 1970s coloured suite which we did intend to replace but couldn't afford to for quite a while afterwards so be warned.

My DH will never let me live that one down!

Ineedalife · 13/02/2011 20:27

Not the best day today, she has been upset by the itching and the sight of the spots.

She gagged on her antihistamine this morning and it was 2 hours before she was prepared to try again.

She has barely moved off the settee all day but has wanted either me or DP to sit with her the whole time,

I feel really sorry for her she is rubbish at being illSad.

She kept looking at me with really sad eyes.

Still she has gone to bed early with piriton and calpol and went out like a light.

Don't think I would dare try bicarb in the bath, she is just about tolerating the oats so don't want to push it.

Awww bless her. I remember whe my DS caught them we were opening xmas pressies and he was errupting! He was born with no tear ducts in one eye and a blasted spot came up over his other tear duct and inside his eye. So he ended up with op to make some.

Bicarb was good to use. DS wouldnt tolerate the calamine lotion but coped with the cream as long as he put it on himself with a cotton bud first which took ages at 1 spot at a time! :o

Hope she feels better tomorrow! :)

shazian · 13/02/2011 20:58

Awww, wee soul. Hope she has a better day tomorrow. I hate it when they are ill. :(
