Hey Guys

Beggers belief I got a letter today from the legal department of my LEA stating that all communication is to go through them and not the SEN officer. Any communication I have with the SEN officer will be ignored. So much for working in partnership with parents.

I have also received a telephone call from the LA EP and she has requested I meet with her at the school with Head Teacher so they can accuratly record my concerns about using an EBD technique on an autistic child. Why do I feel like they are trying to set me up...

I have no very little experience but I would say that you've got them concerned that they need to dot all the is and cross the ts because you know what you are talking about...maybe you'll make greater headway this way ?

Complain to your Local Councillor that you are being denied access to the Education Officer who is statutorily responsible for providing an educational placement suitable to your child's age and ability.

It's actually quite outrageous and a blantent attempt to intimidate you.

Same with the EP and Head meeting. All you have to say is that the technique is not appropraiate and therefore could cause damage which you will hold them responsible for.

Are these LAs just getting worse or is this their recation to parents getting gutsier?

I think LA's are getting worse it really annoys me that they are treating parents in such a pants way. Especially all parents are doing is asking for there child's needs to be met.

I am not going to go to the meeting with EP because I dont think it is productive, but am worried it will be viewed as not working with the LA when it goes to tribunal.

I think I will complain to Local Councillor especially as my ex husband still has full access to Education Officer and doesnt have to go through there legal department like I do..

Well, you are 100% right that you don't want EBD techniques used on a kid with ASD. ( My kid still has the scars from this :( )

But what is the best way forward for you? Are your Parent Partnership any good? Could they come along and state your concerns for you? ( unemotively and factually? )

Interesting I just got my sons school file and it actually has an email in there stating that they know my son needs a special school but they dont know what one so he can stay where he is, beggers belief.

Frustarted If I found a note like that I would be consulting a solicitor. There is a statutory duty to provide a child with an edcuational suitable to its age and ability. That note states categorically that he is in the wrong sort of educational placement and they are doing nothing to resolve that.

Disgraceful
