Grin Grin Grin

Higher rate care and lower mobility Grin.

Never expecterd to get mobility and was worried we wouldn't get higher rate care.

So happy Grin, now i can go and buy some bits for dd2's sensory box.

Just read it wasn't for things I thought it would be for like the cost of appointments etc. I guess its stuff you have to pay for anyway so it makes it a bit easier.

It's stuff you have to pay for that you would not have to pay for if they did not have the disabilities. So it's sort of levelling it. We have many costs that parents of children without disabilities don't have. It's those additional costs we get a bit of help with.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 10/02/2011 17:56

It's not supposed to be used for things to do with their disability, like appointments? Shock I have never heard that. Do you have a link?

We spend it on exta clothes (dd2 ruins her clothes so gets through a lot), sensory toy's, books, days out in the summer and any equipment she needs. Oh and exrat fuel needed for appointments and getting dd to school (even though we should be getting help with travel to school).

it's on the down's syndrome association website in the guidelines for claiming dla.

Well, it's my understanding that the mobility element is for anything to do with mobility - getting around, which would include transport and getting to appointments etc. I mean, if you get hrm you can opt to have a car! for getting around - and the care element is their personal care and support needs.

I'd ask them to clarify that on their website, or to share where they got that info from.

What do they suggest DLA is for I'd be really interested to know because like Hecate I believed it was to offset the extra costs incurred meeting the needs due to disability.Oh and I have a mobility car for ds so what do they suggest I use it for Confused?

This was in the section for under 3s when you can't claim the mobility element so i guess it's just referring to the care element. I did think it sounded a bit strange though.
