DD, age 5, (ASD) has got into a new MS primary :) I go an email today with a letter to follow confirming when...hopefully next term.

BTW her school at the moment does not recognise any issues, does not use her home/school diary properly, uses terms like 'all dcs get tired after returning from holidays', they do not listen to advice, drag their feet at anything they are forced to do, cannot write an IEP, will not give DD a quiet space, do not model language/use visuals and generally confuse DD......and there are 60 dcs in her class! Cant wait to get her out. :)

I wonder when I should tell the teacher? Hmm

DD got a dx as she started, last summer and SALT has been to school. They have an idea as dp went to get a transfer form but we then found out we could do it by a simple email to primary admissions. :) So we havent said a word. ;) I have been told they do not welcome sn dcs. :(

I will write a full report when we leave and send it to HT, governors and who else? Hmm

Great newsGrin. Maybe send something to Ofsted about lack of support for children with SN.

coff33pot · 09/02/2011 19:12

Yay! excellent for you and DD :)

MarioandLuigi · 09/02/2011 19:21

Excellent news :)

Ineedalife · 09/02/2011 19:53

Great newsGrin. I wish I was brave enough to move Dd3.

superfantastic · 09/02/2011 20:38

You will see many anxious threads to follow as we have to move house too! eeeek. Good job school has confused her when they learnt about addresses, she thinks were getting a new house number 44 because they let her put her fav number not our door number!.....now if I can find a number 44 to let we will be ok! :)

Superfan, can I ask a question please? New school presumably have viewed statement and happy to support that but what about TA/LSA support? Do you have to wait until they have recruited staff or what happens. Am interested as would move ds but worried about how straightforward it would all be.

superfantastic · 09/02/2011 21:01

We dont have a statement yet as old school would never support us and only recent dx...were gathering evidence to support a SA should we need that. The new school has a SN unit, so to access that we would need a statement by Y3. However TA are assigned to classes based on number of SN dcs and needs in each class, already has excellent systems for lunchtime support, reading support teacher for all dcs, quiet spaces, use visuals with all dcs and monitor emotional wellbeing at registration time. :) DD does not need a lot of 1:1 just extra support, SLT and small group work to learn concepts and social stuff.

Dame - i always find that schools can make things as straightforward as they choose. The sign of a good school for SN would be one that can tell you how they are going to organise the support.
Super - would love to be in an estate agents when you're looking for a house. Can just imagine the conversation. Super" this house is just what we're looking for - can you tell me if it's number 44?" Grin Either that or you could really confuse the postie!
Congrats on the new school - onward and upward!

signandsmile · 10/02/2011 18:14

could just call the house No. 44,

ie 'Number 44'
22 red street
Any Town.

Shes very particular so wouldnt allow it unless it was 44......I suggested fake stickers to dp but he said she has to learn our address. Hmm :)
