Looking to work with disable pre-school child

Does anybody need a personal assistant to help care for a special needs child?

I know there is funding from the DLA, but I don't know how to access those parents/children that receive it.

I currently look after a little boy, with autism, who has recently started school.

You could contact the Disabled Childrens team at social services. They arrange direct payments and may know if anyone is looking for help. Otherwise you can put an advert on something like gumtree.

I have been doing it for two years in a children's centre nursery school

I don't have any special qualifications, although I have had lots of training in post

Look though the county council job pages, there are often vacancies in schools and nurseries for inclusion support workers

And if you can, get yourself into a school or nursery as a volunteer - most places will snap you up, and it's much much easier to get a paid job from a voluntary position. That's what I did.

Good luck!

Does the area you live in have a 'Family Information Service'(usually linked to the Local Authority). In my area, they have the job of trying to help parents of children with SEN find suitable childcare - in fact they had extra money from the GOVT to do this. They usually have a web directory attached to/linked to the LA site - so perhaps contacting them might be useful.

Thank you all very much. I'll give them all a try.
