Has anyone successfully obtained DLA in this situation?

Everyone is urging me to put a claim in (teachers, job centre ETC) but not sure if it's worth the bloody bother of that horrible form

Yes - DS1 fits all of those things and gets middle rate care and lower rate mobility.

bettyboop63 · 08/02/2011 16:31

my son is ASD at MS when he was awarded DLA(hes now about to start SS)yes and i got middle mobility and lower care tbh i think as he cant be left alone and has 1-1 25hrs and how he actually is he should get middle care too but i had heard people who have appealed and then got nothing so i was just grateful he was awarded at all HTH

Yes ( without ADHD but with SID).. In MS no statement.

Middle and lower

It's not a nice form.. But it is just a form.. Phone up for it's date stamped.. Fill it in and send it off.. Nothing lost by doing so :)

sumum · 08/02/2011 16:56

yes my ds has adhd in mainstream, we get mrc and lrm.

cansu · 08/02/2011 17:06

Yes it is worth it. Dd2 (ASD) in mainstream gets middle rate care and lower rate mobility. It's a horrid form but worth it in the end.

tiredmummyneedswineandsleep · 08/02/2011 17:09

yes do it. i completed form and ds who is 3 gets hrc. the form is draining but glad i did it. form received 10th jan (over a month late) and they awarded it into account and backdated it from the day i first requested it. they sent the pre school a smaller form to complete which they did quickly. was a lot less painfrreee than i imagined (was thinking i'd have to appeal)

good luck. ours means on the days we have a lot on instead of catching 6 buses we can get a couple of taxis instead which will be life changing.

MarioandLuigi · 08/02/2011 18:59

My DS 1s 4 and will start ms in Sept. He has been on MRC since we applied back in June 2009. I agree that the Cerebra guide was an absolute godesnd and I swear thats what got us the award because I wouldnt have had a bloody clue without it

coldtits · 08/02/2011 22:12

Well, I have just finished it.

It's a bloody bitch of a form.

HOw the buggery fuck am I supposed to know how many minutes it takes me to settle him back into bed at 3-am when I've just caught him sitting at the computer and maunching biscuits purloined from my stash?

Yes it is worth it - I get it for my DS who has the same diagnoses and is in MS school too.

He can be rough with home furinture (getting better but still hamfisted).
He needs supervision outside of the hpouse as his lack of attention and poor impulse control means he will run across a road without looking if he sees something of interest on the other side.

If I take him out for a day I have to take another adukt with ne to help supervise him and keep him safe

I have to work part time in order to meet school meetings/special needs group attendance after school and generally be there for him.

The DLA helps me so much towards meeting those extra costs.

Get someone who knows about these forms to help you with it though as they are horrible to complete.

For anyone who comes across this thread through google, mn search, whatever

DO THE FORM

It's a buggery bitch of a form but DO fill it in, because ds1 has just been awarded high rate care and low rate mobility, which means I can get him all the equipment the OT says he needs, and replace the carpet he wrecked with toothpaste.

The money is for the child, you're NOT on the scrounge (yes I did feel a bit weird filling it in) and the only reason you feel weird is because you haven't realised how 'normal' the ASD has become.

That's fab, colditz. I'll be coming to you for advice once DS2 gets to 16, (or is it 15?) He's only got middle rate plus low rate mobility. Though TBH he does sleep mostly between 11 and 7, so fair enough, really.

He's wide awake ATM of course, bloody clocks.

pinkorkid · 28/03/2011 19:54

well done colditz - glad it was worth the hassle of the form and will make life a bit easier for you and ds.
