What happens with DLA decision if DWP haven't recieved a report that was requested?

I put DS's Paed down as a person to contact for any reports, DLA have requested a report as part of a reconsideration, Paed hasn't sent the report. I spoke to the Paed and she said she won't get involved in DLA until he has a formal DX.

So is that it? They're just going to turn it down aren't they?

Tell the Paed to make a dx!! Our Paed delayed sending his letter for ages so we waited a long time but then it was backdated. Agree that you should try to think of someone else - GP, CAMHS, teacher???

NatalieJane · 07/02/2011 10:52

He has been referred to (Initially) the Paed, Ed Psych, SALT, OT, Psychiatrist (sp? Am useless with these spellings!) and to have his eye sight and hearing tested.

He's seen the Paed, obviously, no one else has seen him yet, Ed Psych is coming on Thursday, and the first SALT is on the 23rd Feb.

He's not even seen the GP. He is at MS nursery, both the SENCo and Area SENCo seem to think there is nothing going on with him except some language problems, so no point putting them down.

How can I make the Paed give a DX? I thought she'd have to wait till he's seen all these other people, then base her decision on their reports?

sorry can i ask what you think yr dc's problem is or have you no idea, yes my paed wouldnt have done that either until DS had seen all the above prof as she said dx is on joint discussions looking at all the information from these tests and assesments together they decide on a dx she herself is actually not really qualified in that area as my DH would say not her part of ship if you are ref to her for physical illnesses she would be one to dx but still with other profs advice IYSWIM how can the paed send a report she hasnt even made yet untill all the aboves been done im sure once they have been done she will be happy to forward the report and if you are given DLA it will be backdated to when you sent the request in

Yes sorry, 'they' are thinking ASD, but I'm not too sure, he doesn't seem to have too much trouble socially, well not while he's at nursery at least anyway. There is deffo something, but I'm not convinced it's ASD, though have no clue what else it could be.

I would have thought the Paed could have at least sent a report along the lines of 'Yes he has problems with x, y and z, he's been referred to blah blah blah, and these are the things that mean he needs extra care'. I didn't think there needed to be a formal DX to claim DLA, but now I find that it is just a big catch 22 where as that the professionals won't back up a claim if there isn't a formal DX.

Why does it have to be so bloody hard and complicated?! DWP are welcome to come and spend a day in my life and tell me there are no extra care/mobility needs!

ISWYM but can see where the paed is comming from too i think what you can do is see the other profeshionals and ask the ed psy to be the one on the form depending on what she has to say when you meet her/him hopefully they will have a better idea and can advise but it will be backdated if your sucessful, unfortunately we have to fight hard for every bloody step and all this red tape to get our DC's rights Sad

Davros · 07/02/2011 12:54

In our day (14 years ago!) the Paed made the dx, we didn't get to see all these other people. So, although its much better to have all these professionals assess and compare, it can occasionally be a disadvantage.

bettyboop63 · 07/02/2011 17:55

yes trouble is Davros is they dont seem to understand the phrase if its not broke dont fix it and im sure its made all the more complicated on purpose Confused

Balls.

They've sent a request to nursery.

That's that then. Was really hoping the money would help towards some private SALT.

No, so far he's only seen the Paed, and the SENCo's.

Am hoping the Ed Psych might be of some help, we'll find out on Thursday I expect.

TBF, he seems to walk into nursery, and change to a completely different person, he enjoys it, has made a very close friend and some other friends. Problem being when he comes home, he is absolutely mentally/emotionally exhausted, he either goes into major melt down, or sleeps, if he sleeps he sleeps even less at night than usual and so is even more tired the next day. If he melts down... well, the whole street hears it, and we're all on pins dodging the things he's throwing and trying to keep him away from his brothers so he can't hurt them.

Am actually putting everything we have on the Ed Pysch, he is due to start school in September, and so far, it looks like he will be going in, in nappies, no pen grip, plus everything else, with no support.

I think it is one of those weeks where it all seems a bit tits up!
