As someone who has taken Baclofen on and off myself, (I have muscle spasms due to a neuro condition), I do find that I get what I think they call rebound muscle stiffness if I reduce the dose by too much in one go. There was one time when I completely ran out of Baclofen and I was in a lot of pain because all my muscles were really tense.

I would speak to whoever prescribed it for your son, as it is one of those medicines that you can't just stop taking.

My neurologist put me on it, and I did feel odd when I was taking it. Kind of like you describe, as though I was a bit detached from what was going on around me.

I put myself on a step down dose, broke the tablets up into halves at first. The other thing I had was bad headaches when I stopped taking them, but that could have been due to the muscle tension in my neck and shoulders.

If baclofen isn't helping your son, I honestly would go back to the doctor that prescribed it. There are other things that he could maybe take instead that wouldn't give him the same side effects. It is dangerous to stop taking medication like baclofen without getting medical advice first, especially for a child.
