Visual Timetable

DS 4 has ASD. DS is struggling to cope with any changes after a house move & we were advised by the pead yesterday to use a visual timetable to help him understand whats happening next etc.

Does anyone know where to get the symbols from. I was all for using pics of family & familiar places but the pead said i should use generic symbols. If anyone has any idea, i would be grateful.

DS has been recieving SALT for 2 1/2 years now & has had 8 therapists. Our lastest SALT is off on long term sick so not much point in asking her.

Thanks in advance

Hi, We just started a visual timetable with DS (18m) yesterday Smile. Our SALT made it up for us, based on a detailed daily and weekly timetable we gave her, but clearly you have struggled with your S&L provision. However our SALT did say that a lot of the symbols she used were the PECS ones, and she said you can download a lot of them for free. Or perhaps your local S&L team would let you photocopy theirs?

We were also told though to use photos for anything that would be more meaningful, or download any pictures or symbols we needed. So definitely photos for people, very familiar places etc. I have just ordered myself a laminator! (£15). Other people may have differing views though, and i guess the idea of using completely generic symbols is so that it can be used with him in other settings (e.g. school)

Good luck Smile

Laminator is invaluable, but tbh it's not worth paying for PECs symbols, there are lots of free places where people post them on the web or you could draw them yourself (like I did)- works just fine and is infinitely easier....

Look at the website www.do2learn if it is still about

Most PECS symbols that I have seen have been simple matchstick type figures.

Laminator and self adhesive velcro are more useful than paying for the symbols
