Hi,

I am new to the SN boards. We have had our dd assessed after her teacher raised concerns over her behaviour/concentration. She has been diagnosed as having ADHD.

We don't live in the UK so there is no help from the school, although dd's teacher is very supportive and has told us she will help as much as she can.

So, I am wondering where to start to help dd. She has a farily healthy diet, but I am wondering what to avoid giving her. Plus, should she be on any supplements? We are going back to the assessment centre next weeek to discuss the situation, but if anyone can give any advice/experience I would appreciate it.

We are very relieved do have got the diagnosis, I feel we have a starting point to work from. Although my dh is a bit bewildered by it all, as SN is not really discussed in the country where we live, there's a huge stigma attached, unfortunately.

Also, what about medication? The doctor said we can discuss this next week,

Thank you.

Rosie

There is a lot you can try before trialling medication.

Definately, definately try an Omega Fish Oil with a very high DPA content. This book explains it all in excruciating detail.

Cut out artificial sweeteners.

this book presents some very diff ideas on how to help ADHD.

Basically it's great you have a dx. Now you can start really researching the topic and find out things which might help. Into all that mix listen to the professionals - but only as one source of info.

There is an awful lot you can do to help your child which the docs won't and can't recommend....
