does anyone have any suggestions as to how i get my 10yr ds (severe autism, no communication) to stop pinching himself. he does it a lot when he is upset. hasnt been very well today, temperature just lying about (usually extremely hyper) he has nipped himself all day long, so now his legs and arms are covered in tiny bruises. just as well ss and his sn school know and have experienced him doing this as he looks like a battered child. its upsetting for me to watch him hurt himself, just keep taking his hands away and saying no but 2 minutes later he does again.

Can't offer any suggestions I'm afraid, but is there anyone who might be able to help - CAMHS, outreach, paed? Any experts at school who can offer advice?

Is there any trigger that you can see that starts it?

Really sorry, poor him - and you.

Yip have tried stress ball thing, he has wee balls with ribbons coming off and he loves it, but when frustrated he just throws away. SN school are aware he does it, as is paediatrician however noone seems to bother, think put down to its just another one of those things he does. Aww well, todays another day, seems brighter today and so far no nipping :)
