Baby after SN children

DS3 is now 2.5 weeks old and apart from some initial feeding and weight loss issues he is fine. He has been checked over several times by the paeds and they have all agreed that he is fine. So why have I turned into a paranoid loon? I keep worrying that he has low muscle tone even though 2 consultant paeds, 1 registrar, 1 SHO and 2 midwives have told me that he hasn't.

I'm wondering if it's because I was saying that DS2 had low muscle tone for 4 months before anyone believed me although we only saw the HV, midwives and GP then. So has anyone else felt like this or am I going mad?

yes, watched ds2 like a hawk for the first year! And just like you, got the physio to have a quick look every time we went Smile He's 20 months now and a bit on the slow side for speech but have him being watched over and think it's a case of glue ear he had most of last year slowing him more than anything else. I'm slowly starting to relax now but the first few months were hard.

Oh, yes. I just made a total fool of myself at school telling them I thought DS2 had Aspergers.

We have had concerns about him for years. As soon as I told his teacher - all his concerning behaviour disappeared!

Like I said, I feel like a right fool now :)

(Although obviously better to be a fool, then to be right in this instance Grin )

Despite having cvs/amnio testing on both DS and DD2, I still watched them constantly.

It was completely ludicrous seeing as it (the syndrome) would have been picked up on very quickly, I just couldn't help it.

It's very natural to compare and worry when you have had problems with previous DC.

Congratulations Smile

Congratulations. I think all newbies make you a paranoid loon anyway. I still check all mine are breathing when they are asleep. If they're too still i put my finger under their noses.
It's not paranoia if you've been there before and not been believed, although i would say 2.5 weeks is still so very (and beautifully) young. It's just something to watch and keep an eye on. Maybe jot down in a diary milestones - smiling etc, just in case. At least that way you will feel like you are prepared. As you know, all our DCs are different. NT to NT children are as different as SN to SN. Just enjoy this precious time. Smile

Many congratulations - hope you're getting some sleep!

I'm obsessed ds2 is 5 months and I have about 4 developmental charts saved on the computer which I check every month!!I'm constantly comparing and looking up photos! And asking friends/family what they think! I didn't really notice ds1's delay until 6 months but looking back the early signs were there although no hv or midwife picked up on them either!

Congratulations to your newborn!
Can't respond to the question, since I haven't had a child since, but I would like one.

How did you convince your husbands. Mine sais no, no, no. Any tips?

elliejjtiny · 01/02/2011 16:42

Thank goodness I'm normal (or at least not the only insane one!) glimmer - dh said no more after DS2 but eventually he said yes but it had to be straight away as he was getting old (he was only 30!)

Another one obsessing about younger DC having SN too - DD spent a week at the CDC for a full assessment at the age of 2 as I was convinced she had ASD. They said not but I remain unconvinced - there are certainly some traits there for sure.
