HT wants report changed, help!

Have recently applied for a SA for my son who is 6 and has AS. I recently received his OT's report which is very detailed and has lots of recommendations on it. The OT is the only professional to date who has taken time to REALLY look at my son's difficulties and give a considered opinion. A few days ago I gave the HT a copy of the report and yesterday received a message that she wanted to speak to me. I called her and she informed me that she had spoken to the OT and wanted her to amend her report as she did not agree with it because they were already doing the things she recommended (not!). The only one she mentioned was that they were using a visual timetable. I told her that i had not yet had an opportunity to discuss it with the OT myself and would call her. I called the OT and she informed me that she had challeged EVERY recommendation bar one, she also told me that she had never been asked by a school to amend a report before. She told me that some of the recommendations are general to all children on the spectrum as good practice (and a good signpost to schools of what they should be doing) and that some were specific to Henry. We agreed that she was not to amend it and that I would inform the HT of that decision. I totally respect her (the OT's) judgement of my son and value her input. My problem is now, how do I word it to the HT, bearing in mind I have applied for SA and not yet heard that this is to happen.... I don't want to say anything i might later regret?

I would write to HT detailing what she told you and your discussion with the OT. Explain that the recommendations will remain.
I would be asking Senco/Ht for a meeting and asking to see the evidence for all the strategies they have implemented so far.
HT is taking the piss quite frankly. By putting all this in writing it will help if SA is refused as it will be more evidence to show that school is failing your ds.
I feel for you. My ds has suspected AS but we cannot get a dx yet and are being fobbed off by gp & paed. We do however have a sm for 22 hours support after school told me I wouldn't get one. I hate that it's all such a battle for evrything. Good luck.

i cant believe the cheek of the HT, i would be furious.just explain to the headteacher that after talking to the OT you have no wish to amend the statement.

why on earth is there any need to a amend the report if the school are doing all they say they are, there is a big red flag there.

your going to have to get a thick skin and be on the schools back by the looks of it as they clearly are trying to fob you off.

I agree with pinkstarlight - she has no business telling the OT what to write or change. This is about your son and if the school is already providing these things (!!!) then they have nothing to worry about if it is written into a statement do they. Clearly the head has another agenda here but if she questions why you want to keep the report as it is then tell her that it is in the best interests of your son and she needs to respect that.

thanks everyone for your input, i have now compiled an email using your suggestions. I also phoned sos sen and the chap I spoke to was (shock). Interestingly my DS came out of school today all excited because a mirror had been put up in his cloakroom (only 2 months after I asked) he has been very anxious about his teeth being clean and working out covert plans to get into toilets and do have a mirror and getting told off for doing so. I think I am ruffling a few feathers and it feels GOOD!
