Turned down for dla

What a surprise, I saw it coming, but the reason given is upsetting and just wrong. They said they acknowledged ds's care needs with washing dressing incontinence, but have decided they are not that different from a normal 7 nearly 8 year old, they also acknowledged physical disability but said that he is not in danger of falling, despite 9 hopsitalisations in last 12 months, multiple calls to school due to falling each week, school's risk assessment describing the falling etc and injuries which result...... Feel like crying. I have rung them up and been told to request a reconsideration, then go to appeal if that is not satisfactory. What do you think, feel like giving up, no-body else cares about my ds anyway, why should I expect or hope anyone to help, no-one ever does.

I'm having to go to appeal after my daughters dla renewal was rejected even though gp letter stated that her condition hasn't changed so does that mean the dla have changed there requirements for children to get dla her claim stopped January 2016 been on it since 2014

rut may be worth starting your own thread

fwiw, DLA criteria has not changed.

is your DD less affected by her condition now? DLA is not about diagnosis but about care needs.

Rutledgekerry81 · 26/04/2016 17:06

Hi no her condition hasn't changed at all that's what I don't understand I got in touch with my local mp as they saw her gp letter and it said her condition hasn't changed since her last award so the mp is going to ask the dwp if they have changed the requirements since my daughter last claimed I'm new on here and didn't know where to post

I would probably go down the route of Mandatory reconsideration now (you have to anyways). provide reports (Paediatrician etc). Send her statement or EHCP for school on. Just anything really that supports your claim that she needs care over and above what a typical child needs.

I had to go down the reconsideration and then appeal route as well. Think it is quite common.

I know happens to often done the reconsideration already appeal just been filed now so just the long wait ahead for that it's horrible but nothing to lose how can a child be entitled to it there condition doesn't change and then your entitled to nothing just hoping now that the appeal will go in our favour
