Because I don't want nor trust socail workers my little girl can't not get anything we ave Been warned before in less we do get one they will call it neglect asked why dr said because we shouldn't be buyin items our selves , but I think it's should be brought forward that parents can apply for these things without ss involved ESP when we got so many medical staff ( crap they may be but they could apply for us don't you think ?

What things are you after?

Youc an apply for somethings yourself, although APeds etc won;t- not part of their role etc.

Adaptations grant would be dealt with through SW yes

What in would say is- get one in, they're not all awful I promise; its only cash that I am not one and I think I am OK lol

you don;t have to KEEP a sw; whats more they wont want you on their cseload either as they have too many people anyway

so

visit- grant- request file close

done

From what I can recall in our area the adaptations person who came out to us was from Social Services Community Occupational Therapy team (or something similar) and you can refer yourselves to them (at least you can here). This team is nothing to do with "social workers"; we don't have a SW at all.

Nappies are a referral from the Health VIsitor if your child is not at school, or the school nurses if they are.

Yes- ds's OT did an assessment for bathroom and HV initially for nappies- I now deal with the continence service directly - any other equipment has been through OT or Physio- only saw a SW when we applied for direct payments

We've never wanted had a social worker but we have a lovely OT who has got us funding for a weighted blanket and has also supplied Crelling harnesses for our car. Nappies were organised by our Health Visitor and I think she got us the Major buggy as well. I don't think a SW is always necessary (although I imagine you would need one for adaptations) so it's worth exploring some other channels.

intothewest · 21/01/2011 18:16

we didn't have a SW for adaptations

SqueezyLouise · 21/01/2011 18:36

I'll speak to hv , but I spoke to nurse and she said youed need a assesment or a sw , I will try
