Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Am I going to get flamed for this?

I'm sure you will, but your post seemed to me home truths, well said.

StartingAfresh · 20/01/2011 09:54

Oh it's not too bad so far. That's good.

No, i don't think you will.

As Riven herself has said, whilst she wants (and needs) more support this isnt just about her and i think i read that she is trying to point that out.

I think you are right though, this will be forgotten about tomorrow as the PM has pormised to write to her (pick up the phone dave!)and every single carer in the UK will be back where they started.

I hope that it does create debate about cuts affecting disabled children and the knock on effect that will have.

If anything, this has spurred me to contact my MP (con) as before the election he was all gunghoe over the fact that our council was cutting £80,000 from my DD's special school budget.......have heard nothing since then and now they want to reduce the intake numbers and age limits!

I truly hope that Riven gets all the help she deserves.

No, you're not, Starting, your post is honest and real; needs to be said x

slightlycrumpled · 20/01/2011 09:57

I don't think so. Riven has been very clear about wanting better for all carers etc.

I actually feel really emotional about it all today, for riven and every other carer.

Where's the DLA thread then? Someone is asking for it.

Or is there anything else that I can put on there?

Another story has been in the news this week but it is only on local BBC. Help make it a national story and let the country know how hard it is for every single carer out there

dla thread here if you want to link.

Hopefully all this attention riven and her dd are getting will at least be making people think, makes such a change from what is normally seen.

No, good post, if the media attention and mn spotlight cld focus on the general issues re carers as well that wld be great

SqueezyLouise · 20/01/2011 10:46

Well somthing needs to be done not just about one thing there's loads , I also think not all parents need a socail worker because there child is disabled but because I ave no socail worker Ashley can't get nothing no grant to adapt things we pay for everything seating , we had to fight for a wheelchair and to get her in to school , we are constantly being watched and not trusted in south Wales with are own little girl they don't care a dam about my other kids just Ashley care it's mad because she's the brightest out of all 5 kids , my little boy as learnin problems , global delay and dyspraxia and you no he's just left because he's not known as avin a disabiliy

AttilaTheMeerkat · 20/01/2011 11:16

I would not flame you at all for writing what you did.

Carers save this country billions of pounds every year.

The whole system re caring and the needs of carers has been failing for years; this is by no means a new problem at all and not one that this govt alone have created.

My neighbour works in a respite centre for children and she has said in the past to me that those parents have fought long and hard for years to get their children into this place.

I have also read today that although the budgetry cuts do not come into effect for councils until April, some local authorities and councils have already panicked and have cut services to vulnerable groups early giving some people only a week's notice that their service will end.

SqueezyLouise · 20/01/2011 18:56

I don't think you should ave to ave a socail worker to apply 4 grants and items to be honest
