Hello everyone sorry me again, I was just wondering if anyone has experience of a split school placement , my asd son aged 5 is school refusing and has no friends, yesterday we were also told by an ot that he is very hypotonic and needs lots of work on coordination etc , anyway we were told the local special school may not be suitable full time as my son doesnt have learning difficulties , howver he would be able to get the help he needs there, so i was wondering if he would be able to go there part time has anyone done this ? sorry for waffling autumnsmum

I don't have personal experience of this situation but know of a number of children at my daughter's special school who spend part of the week at either mainstream primary or secondary schools(SN schl is 2 1/2 - 19). I think it has to be written into the child's statement although I think the children I know of would have been at SN school & parents have fought to get them at MS part time - not the other way around as you are suggesting. From the problems you mention some of them should be dealt with by Community Physio/OT and are not reasons on their own to send child to SN school. Good luck - most things are possible if you are prepared to fight for what is right for your child.

my dd2 does but she is only at preschool. She goes 3 sessions at a special autism preschool and 2 sessions in mainstream. TBH you can really tell the difference between the schools and which one she enjoys more but doesnt bother her too much

One of DS' classmates has a split placement.
I think it's nice in theory but as she's ASD I think it must be highly confusing for her.
