The new school is utterly perfect for ds.

Trouble is it's totally oversubscribed and out of catchment.

In all honesty .. From what I have seen there he may not even need as much support / intervention.

Ds loves it ( didn't want to get his hopes up but needed to see how he reacted.. And it was very very gooood!)

it will not solve his issues .. But I believe he may stand a fighting chance and I won't have to keep chasing up for every little thing.

Please god let me get him in!

You have to prove that it is the ONLY school that will meet his needs.

Oh- good luck- I've no advice, but I'll be waiting for the answers as I'm in a similar position !!

HSMM

god knows how I do that.. His current school are saying they are meeting his needs.. They blooming well aren't .. I can prove and argue that ..

I have to proffessionals saying this is the school he needs to go to.. But it's verbal, off the record.

I need a blooming good case and I don't know how to do it.

Carrot- I wrote a 6 page essay on how ds's school was failing him- result:'it's an adequate provision'- anything else costs them more so it is going to be hard- prof say if you keep shouting they may listen in the end...but shout what?

Thecarrotcake · 18/01/2011 21:47

Well I'm hoping that they see by allowing this school they will see that he will need less money because the school is set up for pupils just like him already even though it's MS.... Maybe I appeal to the budget side of the keas nature!

I'm going to call the proffs and see if I can get them on record.. Then photocopy some ( a lot) of my files and use a highlighter... And maybe take him round all the other schools and video his reponse! ( if he doesn't like he won't talk and will meltdown when we get out... This school he was talking to staff!)

Good idea to get as much on record as you can

auntevil · 18/01/2011 22:14

I often think reason doesn't come into it as far as decisions are made. It is all matter of fact to them. However much detail and reason you have, you can't beat the arguments of cold hard cash or technical error.
If you could blindside them with financial benefits and or, suggest any legal shortcomings on their behalf, they would miraculously understand the true benefits of the school.
should i change my name to auntevilandjaded?

Hi Carrot Sad we felt just like this when we found ds's next school. It's just horrible seeing the perfect place looking out of reach. Keep positive though and as others have said promote all the benefits, especially financial. As he has refused school before surely it can only be in everyones interest to get him in the right setting. Are you happy to provide transport there? What are their entry criteria? Do they make allowances for medical needs?
Can only wish you the best of luck - when will you find out?

Thecarrotcake · 19/01/2011 12:40

Dame we have a month for the hearing.
Transport I can do.. well Ds could actually get the bus ( which i am more than happy to pay for... once we get the hang of using buses!).
the school is actually closer to us than his current school. ( but we sit just ouside that catchment line grrrr).

I am at the moment going through the schools literature and ofsted reports, including all the extras they do.. and I am finding benefits for ds that will meet his needs and more.. ( without any extra funding from the LEA lol).
( again unofficially I have been told this morning that we have a strong case already).. but lets face it.. what matters is the panel!

right popping off to chase some people up and see if they will go on record for us.

Is there a suitable school in your catchment area? Ds attends a sn school technically out area but there is nothing in our area so it his nearest school that can meet his needs. Good luck!

Thecarrotcake · 19/01/2011 15:43

we have one catchment school, it's not suitable for lots of reasons (all down to Ds's needs)

fingers crossed everyone :)

Perhaps zero in on the detils that make that school totally unsuitable such as stairs if they are a danger (fits /falling)- lack of security (gates/ doors to keep child safe) specialist unit if expertise essential. Good luck
