ADHD ... does not qualift for a Statement????

My son's teacher informed me that he will never get a Statement with a dx of ADHD as it falls under 'Emotional & Behaviour'. She said we would only be able to apply for one if he was on the autistic spectrum. Does anyone know if this is true? He's being formally assessed in Feb for ADHD. On the Connor's questionnaire, school said his behaviour 'severely' impacted his learning and he is a 'burden' to the class as a whole. So I thought, with that in mind, he may qualify and I'd get their support. Seems. even if he does get a dx, she's written it off as a non-starter. Just thinking ahead really. Any advice?

When my ds was in mainstream he didn't have a dx. He had a full statement. He had a full time 1-1, including lunch time. SALT, OT etc.

He eventually got a dx of ASD & ADHD, now attends an AS school.

NEVER take the word of one person!

Coogar rubbish, rubbish, rubbish!! My son is currently going through the statement process (dx ADHD only) after little academic progress over last 2 years. They tried that one with me. If your child's dx or needs prevent them from making adequate progress in line with their peers, a Statement can be applied for. Trouble is, if the LEA give 10 points or under, I think the school have to fund (or summink like that), so they are reluctant to support many applications for assessment in case they are landed with the 'bill', so to speak. If school won't support you, you can apply independtly of them .. would be better to have them on your side however, Talk to the SENCO.

THIS THREAD IS 2 YEARS OLD

Ha! Zombie thread! I feel less bad about throwing a Hmm at the person who revived it, then.

The old ones are the best !!! Grin

I've reported the poster, anyhow. They've spammed 4 threads with the exact same drivel. ADHD does have a neurological basis, for a start. Yes, misdiagnosis can happen, but

MadameSin · 12/02/2013 19:44

Not sure about your 'drivel' comment ouryve ... sounds more like ASD to me with the ADHD being managed by diet etc etc etc... we know it can be done for some children. Do you think the poster is a liar?

coff33pot · 12/02/2013 20:00

funnily enough my son doesnt have "debilitating" side effects from his medication....... its not the same for all.

also adhd is neurological?

Could be the step son didnt have adhd but sensory processing disorder which can easily be mistaken for adhd? poss asd too? seeing as we seem to be diagnosing the ops child....

oooh I bite so easily these days old post or not....

ouryve · 13/02/2013 09:52

MadameSin - the poster is posting about one child. She has copied and pasted the exact same post (barring details at the end) into 4 threads on 4 forums and then not come back. I don't believe she's lying, but I do believe (s)he has an agenda which isn't even relevant to the OP.
