Hi,
I'm looking into talk tools for ds1 who is 3 with ASD and possibly dyspraxia too. I'm trying to buy some of the kit but it looks like you have to get it from the US, would love to hear if anyone has tried it, what your experiences were and where you got the horns etc!
TIA

WE have done it under the advice of our SALT, it was brilliant for Ds who has cerebral palsy. It really strengthened his mouth muscles and reduced the dribbling and helped the breath control which increased the fluency of his speech.

We had regular (weekly / fortnightly) visits from our SALT who moved him on as necessary and I did the exercises with him once a day at least. We have not had much success with doing therapy at home but this was such fun that there was no problem!

Doing it without the guidance of a trained SALT might be a bit tricky as I was not always sure what to look out for and sometimes when I thought he was progressing - he was but it bought up another issue iyswim.

You do have to get the stuff from America and I;m not sure that they sell to individuals as they like the program to be done under supervision. Always worth asking though...

thanks hairymaclary. i'm finding it hard to get a SALT who has the training in it so was thinking i could get some of the kit for him to play with whilst waiting, but having looked at the website again it doesn't look like the sort of thing you can just learn by doing - probably should wait for a specialist to become available!
