Hello
Not sure if I am in the right place. DD3 started school in September she was only just 4. She has settled in nicely made friends, skips in happily each day etc. At home she does not stop talking, generally quite relaxed and happy. At nursery she never spoke one word in two years (not to adults to children she was fine).
At school she has now started to speak to some selected adults e.g she will say what she wants to the dinner lady, tell the teacher she wants to toilet. I am hugely impressed she even sung with her class at christmas carol concert.
I got a referral letter from school on Friday saying that she will now have speech therapy once a week at school for her selective mutism. All good but what will they do?
Her language skills are good she just doesn't want to speak in certain situations I was the same I feel as she becomes more comfortable she will speak more. How will they get her to speak more? Thanks in advance

Ask the school what they are planning on doing with the speech therapy as its important they follow the advice on this website; check out the download sections:
