Door bolts

We need door bolts on quite a few of our rooms- bathrooms, ds2'sm ds3's probably ours. The bolts need to prevent ds1 getting into the room- so need to be high. What's the easiest way to do it? dh thought we could fix some sort of catch thing. We are both crap at DIY btw. Anyone know what we need. Someone I know has a number pad thing to stop the kids getting into her kitchen (2 out of 3 autistic)

if its for when you arent actually in the rooms then you could fit a brass hook and eye type fastening - the loop on the frame and the hoock on the door?

We did this in out bedroom God know why we bothered! But that was lockable from the inside. I'm assuming you wanted lockable from the outside?

Hook and eye thingies would be easiest i would have thought, and fairly simple to fit. Not sure how robust they are though

Do you have keys to the doors? We have taken out all our keys (and labeled them) and now keep them on top of the lintel of the relevant door, so that we can keep doors locked or unlocked as necessary.

we used these on a balcony door years ago. very easy to fit.

We have had similar ones to Misdee, they must be easy to fit as my dh and I are both terrible at DIY and he managed these ok.

we have one on the outside of the bathroom door to stop DS flooding the bathroom and throwing whole loo rolls in the toilet and of course liberating all bottles of shampoo, we have a hook and eye thing which works well.

We had cheapo radio alarms (fiver each) at the relatives where he would vanish into the garden. The Paediatrician advocated either a bolt or stable door contraption to lock Sam INTO his room at night, that was a no way! A simple bolt from Wilkinsons / B&Q would only cost a few pounds and is just a matter of six or so screws. At the top of the door would work a treat. we used them in the last house, he would sneak into the kitchen and gorge himself at night, they kept him out very effectively.

Ahh misdee those ones are ideal- I had them in a student house and of course one key for the lot. Cheaper than 7 grand on new windows as well (only problem is ds2 won't be able to get into his room to play when ds1 is around- guess that comes under the heading of tough).
