physio and OT suggested nice strong boots for DD2 but her normal boots, arent cutting it. Thinking of pierdo boots. Any suggestions?

Normally the OT would get them for you, no? Are her ankles twisting or is it her instep? You can get instep supports for normal shoes if its that.

These Piedro boots are what my dd2 had. They were supplied by the Orthotics dept at the hospital, who even took back old worn ones to pass on to other children!

Our physio orders them, and they cost £20 per pair. They come in red, brown and blue iirc. We always have blue.

DS loves them.

she has hypomobility and tight tendons. She tip toe walks when she has no sheos on and falls over alot.

If the physio won't provide them you can get them to write a letter saying you need them and send it and your order to gilbert and Mellish They won't take orders without a professionals approval though. Cost around £80 - £120 though!

Alternatively you can get very similar boots at a similar cost but with no professional input from memo in ireland

Can you tell I've looked into this!

I don't know what size you are looking for, but I've seen a couple of nice girl's pairs listed on ebay recently (in the last couple of days). Think they are quite expensive new if you buy them yourself (as opposed to going through physio). DS's physio recommended we buy him some supportive lace up boots (apparently ones that fasten with velcro aren't as good) and we got some kickers boots. Like tiredmummy said, they support the ankle well. Kickers online have a half price sale on at the moment.

Go back to the physio / OT - if that is what they think she needs they will get them for you (at a vastly reduced cost i.e. NHS covers most of it we were told). We have been told DS will need them sooner or later, but they said they sort it out when the time comes.

starfishmummy · 14/01/2011 08:33

When DS needed them, he got them provided on the NHS.

bigcar · 14/01/2011 09:23

I have some beaten up pink velcro piedros in a 24 I'd happily pass on if that's any use. Or I'd go for kickers, we had them while we waited for piedros, got to be lace up boots to give proper support round the ankle. If she needs them they should be provided on the nhs, I think it's one of the areas they are trying to cut back on, so worth pushing it with physio or ot to get some.

Rillyrillygoodlooking · 14/01/2011 10:27

We have a pair in brown with two velcro straps (chosen for a boy) in size 7.

If anyone wants them, especially someone in New Zealand, can have them!

We got them from the physio and DS never wore them, he had smaller pairs that he did wear tho.

lisad123isasnuttyasaboxoffrogs · 14/01/2011 14:15

Marne · 14/01/2011 17:49

bigcar · 14/01/2011 17:51

course you can, pm me your details

Rillyrillygoodlooking · 14/01/2011 18:39

Just the postage from New Zealand would be fine. I'll have to work that one out! I'll message you once I have found out.

Lisaasd

I know were in same area and hate to say it there ar major cutbacks going on
There tryin g not to refer people to orthitcs I would maybe ask them if they will consider refering your for a opion.

Ds is waiting for his afos which luckily everyone agree he needs but he also need sboots for when not wearing the full monty and were struggling as though they say he need sboth its down to costs .We have tried kickers etc but they rub his feet

intothewest · 15/01/2011 17:34

If OT and physio think that she needs them, they should provide them-ds used to wear them-he hasn't for a while, but when I saw the orthotics woman the other day,she thought they would be helpful-we looked through the catalogue and chose a pair-they have always been free (always give the old ones back for the charity they send them to)GOING,it's s bit worrying to think that orthotics are going to be included in cutbacks (although so many things are being included,it shouldn't surprise me) oddly enough we have offered to pay for things in the past, boots, nappies when he was in ICU etc and they won't take it

goingroundthebend4 · 15/01/2011 18:33

Sadly if they said she just needs suportive boots that let's them of the hook as far as piedros as there'd other styles of boots available eg Kickers
