Do you usually get an app. with paed to discuss test results when it's good news?

Hi, not been on here posting much lately, mainly lurking.
Need some insight from you ladies, please.

DS (5) who has a dx of ASD had blood tests mid-november to check for a couple of genetic conditions (Fragile X being one of them), was told in our area it is standard investigation after an asd dx is given.
He also had an EEG in December re: his spacey blank moments.

Now received app.letter to see his paed. I'm slightly worried, i was under the impression that if the tests came back clear then she would simply write to us.
But now we have to see her. Could this be because she has some news that needs to be said outloud and discussed. eeekk!!!

We saw her for a review early November and were told our next review would be in May-June time. Confused

Please someone tell me i'm just worrying for nothing...
Thanks.

Eeek! When is the appointment?

It's much better to know what you are dealing with, then to be in the dark....

I think a lot depends on the DR. I waited 4 months to hear a positive test result - to which we could have been treating in that time, but likewise, i have had drs do reviews after 6 weeks to tell me all is well.
Indigo is right. The results are ready, and it's better to know than not know what the results are. Waiting 'til May /June will not change them.
That sounded really harsh - i apologise, i wish you well and will keep my fingers crossed for you. Smile

Genie, not sure if its the same where you are, but we were told that receptionists aren't authorised to give results over the phone and its not hospital policy to send results by post, so we would usually expect an appointment to discuss test results, be they good or bad news.

In the end the test we were discussing was brought forward by our GP anyway, as ds was getting more and more sick, so the hospital policy was irrelevant, but it was useful to know for future reference.

If you are that worried (I would be just the same) and feel you can't wait for the appointment, you could possibly ring and ask for a telephone appointment instead. I've never done it with our Paed, but our GP is usually happy to do this, so it might be worth a try.

I totally understand how you are feeling, ds has his ASD assessment Monday after next and then his Paed appointment to discuss his absences and one or two other health concerns at the end of January. All the waiting is horrible and knowing the test results are in, but not knowing what they are must be awful.

We had the blood tests pre dx and I received the results in the post.
Hope that you don't have to wait too long for your appointment.

We were called in for an appointment for fragile x and MRI test results - both were clear! Then we got the EEG results in the post - clear again! So it's hard to tell! Hope the waiting isn't too awful and it's good news!

Thanks for your replies.

It seems like it could be either then, good or bad news. The app. is in 2 weeks so not too long to wait.
I know various tests did for me at my GP surgery usually come back in a letter when all is ok, but GP send letter asking me to phone and make appointment if there are issues that needs discussing.
I just wasn't sure if the paed operated in a similar way. Anyway as it is for DS and these are important tests imo, i'm quite happy having the app. in any case so i can ask questions either way. Smile
