Dd2 (ASD) has had her hands down her pants for the past week (not sure what she's doing down there). I keep telling her to take her hands out but she puts them straight back down. She's back to school on wed and i don't want her to spend all day at school with her hands in her pants. How do i stop her? her understanding is not good enough to explain why she shouldn't have her hands glued to her girlly bits Sad.

How about a fiddle toy/object instead..sort of " hands out fidget with a toy " type thing.

Or hands down pants only ever in your own room on your own.

Ds was a sod for this and we just kept repeating hands out of trousers in company.
He eventually stopped!

oh we had this with dd1.

and not only that, but her favourite place in the house at the time was on the windowsill, looking out into the cul de sac (she used ot stand on the windowsill) - must have looked great to the neighbours!

it lasted what seemed like forever.

but. other than "hands out" there was nothing we could do. and if we commented, she would do it all the more for attention.

it's another of those situations where you have to stop caring, stop noticing, stop all attention positive or negative (however hard it is)

dd1 was late out of nappies, so was probably around 5 (and tall!) when this was at its peak. really didn't look great.

but she rarely does it now (she's 6.6 now)

keep the attention for it low, and keep her hands (unobtrusively) occupied, is the best advice I can give.

Thanks Arsenic, i send her to school with fiddle toys but the school/teacher does not give them to her Angry, i will try again and write a little note in her home/school book.

Hopefully it will soon pass and she will find something else to do with her hands Smile.

:) Marne

Does dd have pockets in her uniform ? .. I'm just wondering if you could sew in a fidget something into her pocket.. Teachers wouldn't know it was there.. They wouldn't be able to not allow a fidget toy and a pocket is close enough to pants... It may just divert the pants to a pocket instead?

my ds does this and gives himself erections alot and then asks me if i can make it smaller

StartingAfresh · 03/01/2011 14:49

LOL, it could be worse. DS says regularly in company 'mummy, play with ds' willy?'

ds did this for a while (couple of months?) we did 'hands out' & redirect. He's about 75% potty trained now & the fiddling has pretty much stopped (he's much worse when he's got a nappy on).

(ds' favourite cringe-worthy comment atm is 'Mummy clothes off now ... I want to wobble the boobies' !!! He informed Santa that he didn't like him because 'Father Christmas has no boobies ... Mummy's got boobies ... Father Christmas disappear now' (this is the child who breastfed forever Blush ))

My DS is doing this too, pre-empted by the words, "mummy don't look", as he whips down his trousers and pull ups. Hmm

Sigh.

Rules help. Only in the loo or in bed under the covers, for example.

signandsingcarols · 03/01/2011 18:09

we have a song that we sing, which he seems to like and asks for again, and somehow the he concentrates on the song, not the willy IYSWIM.. Blush

Willy in pants? yes yes yes!
Pants in trousers? Yes yes Yes!

Hands in pants? No No no!
Hands in trousers? No No no!

Think I have posted this before in the silly songs thread...

Have to say it is favourite fiddle toy tho LoL, Grin

and he is very proud of it, came down stairs after a wee and showed it to the portage teacher by signing 'look! willy!'

anonandlikeit · 03/01/2011 19:59

ds2 has an elastic band in each pocket at school.
Not a toy & an acceptable thing to ahve in school but enough for him to fiddle with.

Just a thought ... but do you think it will settle on its own once dd is back at school, all ds2's habitual behaviours are worse at the moment as he has too much time & too few distractions during the hols, not to mention the lack of routine.
Lazing around on the sofa is ideal fiddle time (looking at my dh not ds's) it seems Grin

My DD lies on the floor face down and wriggles on her hand and heavy breathes, it's very embarrassing.

Especially when SIL (from my other thread) was drunk the other night and pointed out to the whole family what DD was doing on the sofa.
