They do like to turn it down initially but if you search the threads here people have been successful Xmas Smile

And I have just received the letter rejecting the reconsideration. Next step the "independent" tribunal. Just at the time when I am going to be fighting to get DS an appropriate statement and special school Xmas Hmm

I looked into it when my DS was 4. He has ASD as well as other disabilities, but we got HRM based on the following criteria "severe mental impairment, severe behavioural problems and receives HRC". I wrote a letter explaining why he fitted each criteria plus sent evidence and they awarded it straight away. After I queried it they also backdated it to when he turned 3 which was great. The Action for Poverty book on benefits was hugely helpful.

We got it for ds when he was three and though it was harder when he got older we still have it now (ds is now 9). We focused on his behaviour, inability to cope with outside world and his severe mental impairment. If you can get additional evidence from your GP or social worker this might help. Both these wrote a letter supporting my case.

Many thanks for your advise. I may contact his GP and health visitor if they refuse although his Paediatric report recommended we apply for HR DLA though didn't specify care or mobility and ticked the box for unable to walk to school alone so it may be that this will be enough. I also mentionned the severe mental impairment and dangerous and unpredictable behaviour as well as no sense of danger. He does get HRC

I have recently been awarded HRC for dd ASD applied back in September when she was 3.3, got turned down for the mobility.
HRC was awarded until 2015 but they said in the letter that they will contact me when she is 5 to see if I wish to reapply for mobility.
Not sure if this will mean a whole new application which puts me off a little.
