I've just returned from buying my 8 month old dd a new coat and the shop assistant was an absolute sweetheart to my little girl (who has Down's).

Rather than do the usual double take, ignoring her or, my personal favourite, giving me the sympathy glances over dd head, she was instead cuddling my dd and telling her how beautiful she was, holding her for me whilst I tried to wrestle several thermal coats on to her in a boiling hot store (you can imagine how well that was going! Wink)and at one point was even singing to her to keep her amused.

I have to say it has really made my day, now if only everyone was as lovely as this lady, then shopping would be a whole lot more fun!

It's nice when you encounter someone lovely who just accepts your dc as they are isn't it. Xmas Smile

I had a similar experience a while ago in ELC, the store assistant said hi to DS and ds screamed and ran to the other end of the store. He said sorry to me and when I explained ds was autistic he was actually really knowledgeable and understanding which makes a refreshing change.

It's something other parents take for granted - I had a beaming smile for the rest of the day.

It's good when these people "happen" in our day. Lord knows, it makes up a little bit for all the "tutters" out there!

Th lady who accompanies ds3 on his SNU run is one of these people- a gift in his life.

There are many kind and nice people about and we have to remeber those who we can see are kind are only the ones after the kind but shy, kind but not good with people, kind but busy have been sifted out..... most people are kind and care, although many don't know how to show it.

Last night I had to take Dd3 to a concert given by Dd2's choir. She is exhausted and didn't really want to go [cue disaster waiting to happen] We sat at the back near the end of a pew[sp] so that Dd3 could get up and wander if she needed to. She did get up and stand at the side and a lady came and sat down. She said is it ok if I sit on the end, I said of course but please be aware that Dd3 will come back in a while and will probably get up and down during the concert.
The lady was very sweet and left Dd3 plenty of space to come and go, she didn't tut, no cats bum faces or anything it was so nice.

I find it hard to take Dd3 somewhere when she doesn't want to go as she can be unpredictable and it makes me feel on edge, but this lady made it so much easier.

You are right proudmum ... there are still some lovely people aroundXmas Smile.

yeah I had lovely lady in church this week, ds singing to him self during prayers and she turned round and beamed at him and said, what a lovely song,

I found her in the interval, (it's a long service! Blush) and told her how much I appreciated it, we got talking swapped numbers and are gonna meet for a coffee soon.

Life has some nice bits sometimes Xmas Smile
