He has been really unwell for the past three days - has spent all day in bed (unheard of!) eating nothing and occasionally croaking 'hurt' and 'ears'. Today he is up and about and I'm so relieved that he's back to almost normal that all my good autism parenting skills have gone out of the window. I have allowed the TV, computer and portable DVD to be on simultaneously, he has eaten chips on the sofa, has had a large range of unhealthy snacks, has stayed in his pyjamas and hasn't cleaned his teeth. He has spent much of the day issuing orders from his den of blankets on the sofa which I have scurried around to fulfil. There will be hell to pay when I attempt to restore normal routine tomorrow...
But it is so nice to hear him speaking/making noises again - I couldn't bear the silence!

Oh poor little mite.

When my son was ill as a little one we'd settle him on the sofa with his pillow and soft blue fleecy blanket. All the rules DO go out the window and rightly so, when they're poorly.

My son's ten now. (ASD, more Aspie and OCD diagnosis) but from time to time, if he's unwell or if we just require a major snugglefest, out comes that lovely soft blue fleecy blanket which he associates with mummy taking extra special care of him......

thought he was recovering fast but is still unwell today - crying because his nose is blocked. have been trying to teach him to blow it but he just sniffs in through his mouth.
