The most wonderful support worker who my son already adores is going to start caring for him for four hours a week in just a few days time.

But listen to this. The grant to the LA that provides this service, one that may actually prevent me from going mad or diving to the bottom of several vats of wine and the one that will help my son mix with other adults and be stimulated by someone who isn't always crying, is being redirected. So it all stops in March.

So no front line cuts then.... Disabled children and their families clearly aren't important to our dear government!

Is it aming high funding? (If so I believe this was always going to end in March, as it was a time limited fund),

(we also get an hour and a half a week for ds from aiming high), what I would say is if you are able to document what benefit you gain from it, how it helps your ds then you could (possibly) have a case for it continue from different funding stream, (that is what we are going to try anyway), but yeah it sucks Sad

Christ....what a bunch of gits.

How is this OK?

Cutting services to disabled kids and their already overwhelmed carers makes no sense at all.

And we're all supposed to get our knickers in a twist about the upcoming Royal Wedding! It won't make ME feel any better, that's for sure. Kate and Wills ought to grow a conscience and elope. Then some of THAT cash can be re-directed to a worthy cause.

At least I didn't vote for them. Won't have THAT on my conscience!!

Hehe I agree Wendi!

Sign, I'm not sure about "aiming high", not heard that name, but still a bit new to all this. Think it was a limited fund as you say, but even so...

And yes, am looking to don my hiking gear to climb mount everest and get funding from the LA for a private carer next year.

Thanks for posts peeps.

Argh. This happened with DS2's pre-school transport funding. We get funding for about 3 months and then I have to start all over again trying to find someone else.

The news is that the government are giving councils £800m for short breaks for disabled children according to contact-a-family.

sorry, pressed the return button before finishing....

HOWEVER, the money isn't ring-fenced so council's will be free to spend it on whatever they like. How crappy and useless is that?

sneezecakesmum · 15/12/2010 13:32

What makes me laugh is they are calling them not 'cuts' but efficiency savings! Therefore front line services (NHS, LA, Police) will not be cut, just the bureaucracy. BUT the bureaucracy are tasked with cutting their OWN jobs!! Lets see if that works! And whose going to monitor where the jobs are cut - those same bureaucrats! My own agency have endless levels of management yet it is the nursing staff who are losing their jobs! Angry
