bloody CAHMS report

Have recently been referred to a psych to help work out what is going on with DS 2.7yo. We have had CAHMS for the past year so I asked them if they could write a factual report about their observations of DSs behaviour. Could they hell. As usual they have written a load of psychobabble about my Dh and I having differing parenting styles, both having unresolved issues from our childhoods and a whole section on.STILL breastfeeding. the rest of the letter comments on how although he is a 'busy boy' all his development is age appropriate. FFS.

Should I give the report to the psych or bin it? instinct says it is not very helpful at all...

It doesn't sound helpful.....

it says he has tantrums but that we manage them well. it says I mentioned he was weeing on the floor but that I wasn't worried. it says all other things are 'age appropriate'

She has always told me to put limits on it, maybe she is right as it is a bit out of control but I have always known how important it is to DS and its very hard to put limits on it because he gets so so upset. Why would the cahms person put a whole paragraph in about it. I'm so angry about the whole report.

psych has asked for doctors reports as he hasn't seen much of the behaviour we see. cahms lady is person who knows him the best out of all the medical type people and she has just given me a load of clap trap.

Hi. What position does the lady at CAMHS hold? Are you now being referred to a Psychiatrist or a Psychologist? At 2.7yrs, your ds is young yet to see a Psychiatrist-a Paediatrician/Psychologist would be better.
What are your concerns re your ds? Do you think he may have ADHD/ASD?
My ds was very hyperactive as soon as he could get about, and very defiant-nightmare! I knew something just wasnt right and eventually, after being at the GP in tears, he referred ds to a Psychologist. He "fannied" around for a further 2yrs whilst we grew more and more demented, and eventually referred us to a Psychiatrist. She fairly quickly dx ADHD which we had suspected all along.
The difficulty seems to be, with younger dc, that many behaviours are put down to their age and development. But, you live with your ds and trust your instinct if you think all is not ok. Keep pushing for him to be seen by the right people. Have you considered making a video of your ds when he kicks off? I wish we had, it might have saved valuable time,(and my sanity!)
As far as the report goes, whoever you have seen at CAMHS, may forward it on anyway. But, you have the right, to send it back to her, with your thoughts and ammendments on.
It is sooo easy for professionals to critisise the parents, especially if they dont see what you are experiencing at home.
You will need to develop a thick skin,(and refrain from taking sharp objects to appointments).
He is your ds-if you want to breast feed, and it offers comfort to him, go ahead-it wont harm him. It will not be the breast feeding that is causing any underlying problems-only maybe a way of ds "pushing your buttons" IYSWIM.
Take Care. HTH.

cahms is a primary infant mental health specialist. we were referred to them for sleep issues.

DS has been referred privately initially as we have free medical insurance. We have also been referred on nhs. We suspect mild asd, sensory disorders.

The specialist is a consultant in child psychiatry. He won't get a copy of the letter as its private. I hope not anyway!
