Hello, I have a 2.9 year old DS with a diagnosed speech delay and he has now been referred for assessment for ASD which we are expecting to happen in the Spring.

We are currently receiving some SALT from the local authority but would but would like to supplement that with some private input from an independent speech therapist.

We live in Bromley and wondered if anyone has any recommendations for a practioner with expertise in toddler speech delay / poss ASD in this area.

Many thanks for any help.

I'm nowhere near you so cannot recommend anyone but just ambled on to say 'go for it' we did the same for DS around the same age and it really helped.

He has a dx of ASD but his frustrations are much much reduced (not perfect though)

You won't regret it. Xmas Smile

Spinkle,

Thanks so much for your reply. I've found a list of local therapist so will discuss options further with them.

Would you mind letting me know what sort of programme of speech therapy you had? I'm not really sure what I need to do but realise that our current situation where we are seeing different therapists every couple of months who then refer to others is not working.

Thank you :)

We didn't have a program as such. Our SALT worked on issues as they came up - sometimes the sessions were pretty bad due to Ds' behaviour.

He went from less than 30 words at 3 yrs to speaking in sentences now (he's 6)so not overnight but he can even do subclauses now.

The SALT used Hanen from time to time I believe.

He has been invaluable in being the 'middle man' between us and school and keeping them on target with DS' S&L.

Our private chap was friendly with the NHS therapist and so liaison wasn't an issue between them but I believe there is some sort of protocol that means they must communicate between themselves.
