Has anyone completed the above questionnaire! I have and DS was a 3 on all the questions yet they reckon they are not testing for ADHD.

He has a confirmed diagnosis of ASD!

Thanks

Yes - and I have only ever heard of it being used to test for ADHD!

It was used for dd1 to test for ASD and ADHD we were told.
(Dx = ADHD, but not ASD, we filled in a form consultant filled in a form, and school filled one in too)

We've just had ours through and we're going to complete over next week or so. My ds is being assessed for ADHD only, but I believe it can be used to dx a co-morbid of ADHD alongside ASD ..... ? Hope that's right.

We filled one in for co-morbid of ADHD alongside ASDfor DS.

Have filled them in for kids I have taught in the past for ADHD only.

They seem like a pretty crude method of dxing to me.

We've just been given one to fill out for DS2 (as well as for teacher to fill out). Paed is looking at ASD, dyspraxia, sensory processing disorder, and possibly ADHD. She stated she wasn't necessarily convinced it was ADHD as she believes the behaviours are more sensory issues than ADHD, but thought this may help determine some of that.

we completed the Connors scale for ADHD but they were also looking at Oppositional Defiance Disorder using the same questionaire

ouryve · 07/12/2010 16:32

Spinkle, they're not the only method of diagnosis but are useful for quantifying the extent of the problems ahild with suspected ADHD has in various respects. We had a detailed interview, 2 play observations and a school observation as well as contributions for other professionals involved with DS1, in addition to the school and parent versions of Conner's scale. That was all followed up by a consultation with the psychiatrist before he gave a formal diagnosis. The Conner's questionnaire did highlight that his greatest difficulty at home was with hyperactivity and at school with oppositional behaviour.

I can see how the test sort of covers many disorders ... questions are linked to OCD, ADHD, ODD and ASD - they're all in there as I've just completed mine. I was also told by my SENCO that that along with this form, one class observation and the paeds meeting - they would be able to dx ...... ? I thought they may have spent a bit more time with the child, maybe it's just our health authority Sad

Just an update on ours - paed looked at our Conners questionnaires (ours and teachers responses) and stated that he showed some indications of ADHD as well, however, she felt that at 4yo he is a bit young for a firm diagnosis of it. She's also referring him to get a sensory assessment (?) as well, as she feels some of the behaviour may be due to his sensory processing disorder.

So, seems to be a tool for the diagnosis but not a definite. At least to our paed anyway.

Anna85 · 09/12/2010 08:08

No I don't think it is, our pyschologist said it was to show if they were at risk of ADHD and needed further assessment!

Exactly, Anna. From what I gathered from our paed, it's not something from which they diagnosis just based on the results. It's something they use as a tool to go further with it. But's it not a "oh they scored this, so they have ADHD."
