Arsenic - DH is going to deal with the family member. I simply can't. I'm trying so hard to just shut it out, but combined with everything else it's hard. I love Christmas time, but the extra family time can be so wearing...

Happy Birthday to your DD Lougle!

No chocolate. sob. But DH made tea, so I didn't have to, and I'm now sitting on sofa with feet up and Diet Coke nearby. It will have to do.

TheArsenicCupCake · 03/12/2010 19:31

Happy birthday dd1 of lougle :)

at least that's something triggles

I'm trying to decide what bedtime for dd and guest is going to be lol

ah - good news - have located a chocolate stash! Grin feeling marginally better now....

purplepidjbauble · 03/12/2010 21:07

Evening all!

Happy birthday lougling Xmas Smile

may I recommend that, when an 18 stone chap suggests he'd like a coke and some chocolate, you say no? Pushing that wheelchair on sheet ice/snow was a f*cking nightmare and my shoulders hurt. And I have a pair of trousers to make tomorrow. On the plus side, I have a pair of trousers to make tomorrow and I spent most of the day making the set for the work nativity so basically messing around with cardboard, pva glue and poster paint. Pidjin heaven Xmas Grin

No wine, but super-healthfreak DP has bought me sticky toffee pudding and custard

moosemama · 03/12/2010 22:13

Evening - its gorn all quiet on here. Where've you all gone?

First of all Happy 5th to Birthday Lougle's dd! Smile

Mixed week here:

First the shock of getting ds1's assessment appointment through four months earlier than expected, that as dh just put it to his best mate "rendered Moose speechless for the first time in her life". Hmm Grin

Did his pre-assessment communication questionnaire - and it made me cry.

Also found out today that he has been really struggling with the work he's been doing with the EP on faces/emotions and in particular working out why someone might have particular feelings in different situations. In fact it seems his ability to understand what other people are feeling is far worse than we ever thought it was. Cue a big change of strategy for his EP half-way through his course. So that came as a bit of a blow as well.

Lots of worry about what was up with ds1 this week as well, as he was showing lots of signs of anxiety (tics etc) but we couldn't get to the bottom of why. Then he lost a front tooth that was 'a bit' wobbly until he fell of his chair at school last week and hit it on the desk, leading to it becoming 'very' wobbly. Turns out he couldn't stand the taste of blood in his mouth (never thought about that, we are veggie - so he'd never tasted blood before) and couldn't cope with the feeling of having a really wobbly tooth in his mouth. Unfortunately he is losing his teeth late and its only the third one to go, so we have a lot more of this to come. Still, at least we know what to expect next time.

Dd has been really poorly bless her, with a chesty cough and thick cold. She's 22 months and has never had a cold or cough before so has been really clingy and tearful, not to mention wakeful. Hmm

My Mum told me she is being investigated for some pretty serious health concerns and my dog, who had decided to rally after her life/death episode a couple of weeks ago has just taken another turn for the worse.

and then a couple of postives:

Received a copy of his new IEP and it was all pretty good, except the last point which is to do with emotional awareness and resilience. That was nowhere near SMART, but I mentioned it to his EP on the phone today and she agreed and is going to sort it with the school.

Dh has landed an interview for a fantastic job and by all accounts the company are very interested in him, so we are keeping everything crossed for that.

Oh and have finally received all the dc's Christmas presents (did all my Christmas shopping online) have finished making all my Christmas cards and have everything I need to start making up the hampers for everyone else. So all I have to do now is 22 mini christmas cakes, 22 muffin mixes, 12 jars of chutney, about 50 thousand chocolate truffles and about a million pieces of shortbread to make then. Hmm Grin

fightingthezombies · 03/12/2010 22:22

Hiya Moose - good luck for your dh. Am Xmas Envy that you're so organised for Christmas. I only just started shopping today. Sorry to hear about all the bad news but hope things are better next week.

moosemama · 03/12/2010 22:29

Thanks fighting.

Fortunately it still feels like a mixed bag, rather than being weighed down with just bad news though.

If I am honest, I am only that organised for Christmas because we have been such a house of bugs/sickness over the past few weeks, that I have been stuck in the house with nothing else to do but plan and online shop. I have tried three times to arrange a shopping trip into town to do some rl shopping, but had to cancel every time.

Triggles · 03/12/2010 22:29

Moose - I'm just feeling sorry for myself in the corner, munching chocolate. Grin

sets chocolate out for anyone to munch

Help yourself. Hope things get better.

moosemama · 03/12/2010 22:34

Thanks Triggles.

I usually turn to chocolate (hence my ever expanding backside [blush) but my flipping ulcer is playing up at the moment, so am sworn off it. Sad Zero fat yoghurt is no substitute I can tell you. Xmas Grin

Sorry to hear about your family troubles. I was just talking to someone on my postnatal thread about how familes are such a double-edged sword. Lovely when/if they are being helpful and supportive, but so often such a lot of hard work and stress as well. Hope you get it all sorted soon.

purplepidjbauble · 03/12/2010 22:49

Ooh, Moose, that sounds yum! Could I possibly blag your recipe for Chrissie cake? I'm working overtime on Friday in a different place, and am being positively encouraged to do some cooking Xmas Grin A surefire recipe would be awesome (They will also be cooking their own lunch and dinner and washing it up if I have anything to say LOL)

Triggles · 03/12/2010 22:53

moosemama - thanks. And yes, I can see where zero fat yoghurt is no substitute. Don't they have a zero fat chocolate yoghurt?? Grin Hope the ulcer calms down a bit - I had one when younger, and it was buttered toast and ketchup that made it hurt the worst. Weird. Hmm

The biggest redeeming quality about most of my family is that they live abroad. It means we can limit some of the contact. But for some reason, they still manage to drive me to the brink of insanity. I told DH tonight that I feel just like I did when I was in full-blown PND after DS3 (he's 16 months now). It's not like the flu where you can have a relapse though, right?

moosemama · 03/12/2010 23:22

I'm not doing my usual recipe this year Purple, as I've got 22 mini sized ones to do, so I decided to use a recipe that has been tried and tested for baking minis.

I usually do the Bero Christmas Cake which you can find here and its never let me down yet.

The one I'm doing this year is about 2/3rds the way down this page.

Triggles, I think it depends if you've been low-grade depressed rather than fully recovered from the PND. I've certainly heard of people whose PND lasted years rather than months. If you never quite recovered fully, then yes stress such as family problems can tip you back into full blown depression again. If you're feeling that bad, might it be worth a chat with the GP?

There is some debate among my doctors about whether or not there is actually an ulcer or if its severe reflux. They also like to argue about whether or not my gallstones have a part to play in it all. Hmm I tested negative for helicobacter though and I thought they'd now discovered that all ulcers are caused by that. Confused Either way, it bloomin' hurts and I can't eat any fat without making it 100 times worse. Great timing, just in time for all the lovely Christmas food. On the bright side, I might actually lose some weight over Christmas instead of gaining for a change. Wink

Triggles · 03/12/2010 23:40

if it's fatty foods, I would think more likely to be gallbladder. While I was waiting to have mine out, I literally lived on steamed veg. Fatty foods didn't necessarily bother me when I had an ulcer, was more acidic (hence ketchup). But oh my god anything fatty with gallbladder was unbearable! Hope you're feeling better soon!

Triggles · 03/12/2010 23:42

functionally, i think the gallbladder is what deals with fatty foods hence the pain - IIRC it's where bile is stored that breaks down fatty foods? oooh, now I have to go look LOL

TheArsenicCupCake · 03/12/2010 23:48

Phew.. Dd and guest are asleep < flakes onto sofa>
why are sleep overs such hard work? :) bless them they are now both snoring!
I've been conned into making a pancake feast in the morning ! :)

OP posts:
Triggles · 04/12/2010 05:48

ooooh pancakes.... are we all invited? Grin

god, 5am comes so early .... and today is jam-packed with things we have to get done.... what happened to relaxing on the weekends? Hmm

smugtandemfeeder · 04/12/2010 06:02

I'm ridiculously angry at having to be up this early, you would think I would be used to it by now. DS is stuttering so badly he is crying saying "i just can't talk" I feel so bad for him, but all the professionals are obsessed with telling me his speech is normal.

Triggles · 04/12/2010 06:29

5am is the normal wake up time here (although DS2 sometimes can wake up at 3 or 4am for the day). But I still have difficulty dealing with it sometimes. Can you record when he is stuttering badly (so that he doesn't know your doing it, of course) - perhaps set up a video camera somewhere he wouldn't notice it so they can SEE what he's going through? Or do they actually think the stuttering is normal??

TheArsenicCupCake · 04/12/2010 10:00

Triggles do you want pear, apple or banana pancakes ? :)

I'm not sure how two small people can be awake most of the night and get up so early with so much energy! :o

having said all that.. Guest is still easier work than ds2 :(

OP posts:
TheArsenicCupCake · 04/12/2010 10:04

Smug.. I'd record your ds and the stuttering. Ds gets stuttery when he is stressed... ( not quite the same) but we do .. Tighten all your muscles in your body and the relax them.. And then breathe out deep breaths.. When you say something. It seems when his breathing is controlled is lessens.

OP posts:
smugtandemfeeder · 04/12/2010 10:52

Arsenic, I have been trying to record it today but the sound on my phone is rubbish so will have to try and find video camera. he is only 2 and a half so all the experts keep telling me his speech is normal for his age but I just know it isn't. DS was stressed as I shouted because he got up so early and it was my turn to get up with him. bad mother! I will translate your technique into a two year olds version. Whether he will listen....
