Having read a few threads on here recently about feeling like you can't cope, and a good ol' chinwag with signandsaycarols, I'm offering to help organise a little something...

I live on the edge of the glorious New Forest, and have done all my life, and think it would be a pretty good place to organise an overnight minibreak!

The first weekend of the Easter hols is Saturday 9th April, which seems like a good date as hopefully the weather will be cheering up and the flowers coming out.

I've had a little look, and the most reasonable (standards and price) hotel I can find is the Angel in Lymington - £49.95 per room per night. A bit steep, but I know it's a lovely place.

If anybody fancies doing this, post here. I'm happy to co-ordinate from down here - IE book a restaurant for the Saturday night; plan a nice gentle walk for the Sunday morning, ending with a nice cafe or pub for lunch.

Post here if you fancy it :)

ooh sounds very tempting... am mostly a last minute type scatterbrain of girl (probably where ds gets the adhd Grin but might well be up for it closer to the date

donkeyderby · 02/12/2010 20:43

sounds very tempting, if I'm invited too. I may not get away with it as going away for a weekend in Feb and March and have 3 birthdays in April for which parties must be arranged

purplepidjbauble · 02/12/2010 20:49

Maria, whenever you get round to it :)

I would advise aeverybody to book after Christmas, as there's a Premier Inn up the road and they might do some more special offers...

Donkey, would be wonderful to see you.

I'm wondering now, with all this interest, if it would be worth us booking one of the local independent b&b's and seeing if we can get the whole thing to ourselves? Anybody know how I'd go about finding out??

Count me in, how about a few of us from here (Tyneside) travel together, wether by bus, train or car.

MABS · 03/12/2010 13:28

would have loved to come, but am on hols then dammit :(

dammitjannette · 03/12/2010 13:31

Live up the road in Wiltshire so could definitely make this!

nappyaddict · 03/12/2010 15:29

Are we bringing the kids or leaving them behind?

Either way I would be up for this. Is it accessible by public transport as I don't drive?

2shoesnightmarebeforechristmas · 03/12/2010 17:21

purplepidjbauble thanks but as she is 15 not easy, and the idea of sharing a room with her....the idea is to horrible sorry.
now if it was no kids

bigcar · 03/12/2010 18:48

am interested but will have to check dates.

purplepidjbauble · 03/12/2010 21:24

Oops, thought I'd made it clear - NO KIDS!!

Nappyaddict, there is a mainline service from London Waterloo to Weymouth, you would need get off at Brockenhurst and change for the Lymington branch line, or let me know what time you're getting in and I'll pick you up.

I'm really looking forward to this!

I'm going to have to pass - it will take over 5 hours on public transport for me to get there.

TotalChaos · 05/12/2010 16:40

hmmm (strokes chin) I can't justify the distance/expense by myself, but if I could ditch the boys for the day, I might meet up for lunch/afternoon etc, if that's OK with everyone? don't include me in any numbers, as would arrange own accommodation.

lisad123isasnuttyasaboxoffrogs · 05/12/2010 17:28

nappy, where are you again? might be able to collect you on the way. I hate driving alone :(

Many kind people are offering lifts and petrol money, so copy and paste the above, adding in your county/approximate location and we'll see if we can match people up, if that's ok?

BTW, easiest way on public transport is to get the London to Weymouth line to Brockenhurst. I am happy to do pick ups the couple of miles from there to Lymington Xmas Smile

Birmingham New Street to Brockenhurst on the train is 2h23m with no changes, costs £67 single.

I can't search the dates yet, but for a weekend in January, you are looking at £7 here and £15 back on the coach with megabus.com and it takes 3h45m max Xmas Smile

Any use?

OP posts:
nappyaddict · 07/12/2010 11:30

I think if I book in advance and use my rail card I can get a return for about 30. It's too early to let me book yet though for that weekend. I would have to get a bus to Wolverhampton, then a train to Brockenhurst. It takes 4 hours 15 minutes if you take away the bus journey to Lymington. Still quite far for just one night.
