Palate function

Has anyone else had further testing done ds s&l teacher/therapist wants to refer him as ds seems to have lit of issues with palate/jaw tounge know he has severe oral motor dyspraxia and other than H can make no other constant sounds

ds is getting lots of theraphy as in speech unit but there concerned just how little progress he is making with sounds despite lots of input

not had further testing but am waiting to hear if we can get referred. Dd3 has m,g and p but no other consonants and progress on sounds has been nonexistent for at least 2 years. She has new words but all using the same sounds and unintelligible to anyone but me, even her dad struggles.

How old is dd3? Ds is 5.5 now yes most the time I can follow ds but out of family not hope in he'll

Feeling were be looking at moving to augmentive comunication it is mentioned in the report that needs be able to access it,he already uses signing to supory speech

dd3 is 4.8 now, I've been asking for a referal for about a year, but as she's so far behind in everything anyway noones been interested. Dd3 also signs but she has problems with placement of where her hands should be so that's not too good either. I think because she's deaf they will push the signing a lot more before looking at augmentive communication. I've been trying to push school into doing pecs but they can't be arsed are not doing it despite already having widget and a laminator They've made a few basic pictures up but they are about 2 inches square, pretty crap for a child with a vi! I'm currently trying to get her moved.

depends on needs ds tried pecs but he wants to communicate did not need in the tradtional senseand he found it way to frustraiting he has a lot to say for himself just no one can understand him;(

He to struggles with signing due to gross and fine motor control but he gets the message across ,Ds to has GDD

your ds sounds quite similar to dd3, she has hyotonia and is hyperflexible too. Except I think pecs would work really well for her because she is at the 1 or 2 word level right now and that mainly revolves around her needs and wants, she just needs decent sized pictures and a bit of effort on the schools front! It must be really hard for your ds with so much to say. How do you find school manage to understand him? I think dd3s vastly underestimate her in a lot of ways with regards to communication, of course not really helped by the fact she's no where near as outgoing at school as she is at home. I made a dvd for her salt of her 'speaking' because she didn't know what dd3 could/couldn't do.

Ds salt recently referred ds to see a specialist when I told them ent were going to take ds tonsils and adenoids out otherwise it wouldn't have happened

Im fortunate ds is in a speech unit that are working hard with him so there set up to deal with it .ds will point and uses signs to facial expressions .

School have picked up that he is very communicative but his review next week will be intresting
