I am at the moment having a Family Practitioner come round and work with us, and today she mentioned the Clinical Pyschologist would like me and the school to complete a Connors Questionnaire?

Has anyone had to do this before and what are they used for?

DS has a diagnosis of ASD

they are a tool used to look at and perhaps diagnoise adhd.

they need to be filled in for two different settings hence home and school.

Someone with more knowledge will be able to tell you more.

Yes, they are used to dx ADHD. However we were asked to fill one in for a dx of Aspergers by the first paed. Then the second paed said why on earth were you asked to fill that in?

It's just multi choice about whether you child can sit still or not. Filled in by you and by his teacher.

We have done one for ds 1 (ASD) and have just been given another to assess effectiveness of his medication. There was some suggestion that ds1 may also have ADHD and or a bipolar mood disorder. It's a multi choice questionnaire.

Some impulsive dc with asd benefit from treatment for adhd. Some don't. The questionnaire isn't validated on asd children, but has some value as a checklist to help parents and teachers think through the categories and rate the severity of behaviours compared to a NT child.

Technically, you can't 'have adhd' if you're autistic, but most doctors treat some children with asd for adhd symptoms. If you have strong feelings about whether your child needs (or doesn't need) help with hyperactivity / impulsivity / inattentive symptoms then make sure you and the teacher also do a free text page describing the consequent impact or lack of impact.
