Hi all,
my DD2 (3.5, dx ASD with speech delay) is due to start a new nursery in January and we are really hopeful that it's going to be a good one - after getting over the shock that the private nursery didn't feel they could offer her the same time as every other child her age Angry.

i remember reading on here ages ago about a passport style information sheet/template that seemed like a really good idea, and perfect for her now - she's due to go for a trail session on Tuesday though, so have only really got tomorrow to get this sorted. Would really appreciate any help/pointers from you lovely lot on what sort of things to include, in what order?!

Oh and our (2nd, long story don't ask!) panel on whether she will be assessed for Statement is on Tuesday too.... fingers crossed for her please!

Hi there
How about:

  1. Health Issues/Concerns
  2. Communication
e.g how to get dd's attention, how to interpret replies
  1. Behaviour
any anxiety triggers and how to resolve them What extra safety precautions needed? What activities does she enjoy?
  1. Food and Drink preferences.

Is that what you were thinking of?

Good luck with the panel. I have one of those coming up too.

Scope do a great one which can be used by anyone.

Very simple to use template.

Here

They are great-much more accessible and readable than a boring old report.
I'd attach a list with nameso f all who support her, for them to tick off when they have read.

Lots of photos help too-make it really fun.

Maybe likes/dislikes eg; noise, texture, toys, colour

Early indicators of behaviour: does she growl if other children get too close, make a funny face when she needs the toilet, hide under things if stressed etc

Strategies you use eg time out, stroking her hands/back/hair to help her calm down

Abilities - is she good at the actions to a song? stacking bricks? drawing?

Any words she uses that may not fit into "normal" language - all kids have these (mine were crungle for crumble, snippers for slippers LOL) but could help them to understand what she's saying. Also, any signs she uses

Good luck, and hth

We had a really good 'pupil profile' that Autism Outreach did when ds was in his first primary school.

They ignored it, and so did the school he moved to afterwards.

They're a great idea, but no guarantee that the information on them will be heeded.
