Read a thread here sometime ago that someone wanted some research on EBP and Music Therapy. I haven't read it yet but visited the Nordoff Robbins team and thought they were quite good. Anyone with more information about them?

In the meantime, if anyone is interested:
Presenting the Evidence: A Guide for Music Therapists Responding to the Demands of Clinical Effectiveness and Evidence-Based Practice was written by members of the Nordoff Robbins research team in 2004, and has been an internationally successful publication. The updated version, 2009, can be downloaded for free.

Starlight Love your description of your ds's OT class.

We are trying to fight for music therapy on ds's statement - his psychologist thinks it might help him in ways that psychotherapy might not. Ds is musical and picks up tunes on piano and keyboard.

I look forward to reading that.
I am a huge fan of Music Therapy and work closely with several.
However the evidence base is currently very small and needs expanding.
On my wish list of things to do is to look at using music therapy in a behavioural context and measuring the improvements so many of us see anecdotally.

Keep you don't have ot be musical to benefit from MT!

OK moondog, DS is starting music therapy before Christmas and I'm looking to learn more about evidence based practice/ABA methods. So if you can think of a way to combine those threads and/ or help the MTs to get a publication, please do PM me!

Yes music or the properties thereof.
In MT the child is effectively reinforced for doing things that we value as communicative such as eye contact, exchanging, vocalising, purposeful movement to someone, initiating.

It's fantastic.

The next step is to tighten up th e contingencies and to start taking data on what is going on.
