Had a social worker come to see me today to talk about ds1. He has an ADHD diagnosis and has been on medication for 3 years now. Over the last year things have become progresivly worse and just recently he has become violent at school.

School wondered if there was a child protection issue at home Hmm so contacted ss. They came and said the best solution for us would be a CAF plus but i dont know what this entails.
It looks like we might finaly get the statement he needs and there was talk of some other education assesment
Just slightly confused as to what happens next really

Not sure about CAF plus, but we completed a CAF form for DD#1 in July. It goes into lots of questions some quite personal though many may not apply to your situation, and we just left those sections blank. In response to the form a meeting will be held without you to decide on the next action, which is most cases and in ours was to call a TAC meeting (team around the child) - this involves you, school/nursery, any professionals who deal with your son and any others not already involved who they feel should be such as Ed Psych, and presumably as social worker where involved too. At the meeting the concerns are discussed between everyone and plans are made as to the next steps to be taken - in our case that was to investigate further re a diagnosis for DD#1 with further referrals etc. It also involved ideas for sessions 1:1 or in small groups with DD#1 in school to help her with some of her issues.

So far for us it has been a very positive experience. I have read on here though about others who have not been so keen on the whole CAF/TAC thing and feel they are being fobbed off. I guess these things are only as good as the professionals who you deal with though. Using this system does not stop you applying for a statement although I believe some people have also felt that this is a delay tactic to stop them doing that. You can however run a statement application concurrently.

Hope that helps.

Thankyou that does help.
I wondered if it was something like that. It will certainly be more of a positive thing for us as we have had years of being passed from pillar to post and having to work with separate agency's without them comunicating between each other

He did speak about the fact he feels the need for a statement which is something i have wanted for a while
