Can we go back to posting about teens on here?

DS has hit Transition and it opens up a whole new world of worry and uncertainty. I feel that if I post on the teens bit, noone will answer as it is so quiet. Can we go back to having the teens included on here? I spend most of my MN time on here despite the fact DS is nearly 15

I've always talked about my teens everywhere. Grin
Mine is 16 and in Y11, heading towards college and more changes.
AAARRRGGG!
We can weep gently together if you like.

My kids are either older or younger than teens, but I always thought discussions about teens were just as welcome as any other age. I can't imagine it would be a problem to post here about them.

I've always posted on this bit too. I just feel a bit like I should be posting on the teens bit! Glad to know there are some more transitioners out there. Yes, let's weep together and hope that we'll get through the whole process without going mad

I also have a teen (15) Yr11.

In process of applying for a Statement (so info from NM isn't necessarily age related).

Also trying to persuade ds that even though he hates education and has been failed throughout the majority of his time in school, that college may be his best option.

the teens bit is never used, which is such a shame as imo the threads about teen stuff on the main bit get lost.

I am not a parent but do work with teens with SN in secondary schools. I haven't been doing it a hugely long time and there's a LOT to learn but really find that knowing how parents view their child's education/provision etc helps me improve what I'm doing!

I didn't even know there was a teens section Blush

I have ds's transition review next week he's 15.Will be a nightmare no doubt, I want him to remain at the ASD unit for sixth form but there's no precedence because he was one of the first two pupils in our LEA to have the sort of provision he has had. Trouble is it was initially a five year placement and there is no other maintained place in the LEA that could meet his needs.Connexions have been useless and caused no end of anxiety so are currently being kept away from ds. Transport is being "restructured" so a concern as we are 30 miles away. It all seems so uncertain and it does neither me nor ds any good.

DD won't you have to wait until next year to start, dd's has only just started and she is in yr 11.
do you get more that one choice for 16 plus, of is just the "college" or nothing?

Ineed2 · 22/11/2010 17:12

I do sometimes post on teens but it is usually quiet, I have a big mixture of ages and only one has identiyfied SN, I tend to stay around here unless its something I feel strongly about somewhere else.

Davros · 22/11/2010 18:14

My DS is 15 and we have an annual review this Thursday. I will see what happens.....
I suppose one of the reasons I usually look at this area is that SN Children is the first listed in the SN section so I click on that first, then sometimes go to SN Teens but have usually run out of time by then. I don't know about putting them back together again. Maybe we should have a trial period to try using the Teen section more? If you others are willing to go there more then I will too Smile

So pleased to find so many on here with teenagers. I only post on here too. My DS is 15 and Year 11.
I am finding it all a bit much too.

Goblinchild · 22/11/2010 22:32

I don't tend to start threads, but I do reply to them. So if people are posting in the teens section, I'll be there too.

2shoes · 23/11/2010 08:18

i think this thread kind of proves how over looked teens get in this topic.
as barely any answeres

LaydeeC · 23/11/2010 09:48

^^ add me also
have a 13 year old AS son in specialist provision - year 8.
I am not waiting for the 'official' transition to start and have started requesting meetings with school staff now so that we can discuss his options/what will be available to him with the end goal of him ending up in 6FC and uni.
Would be grateful for support Smile

SausageMonster · 23/11/2010 20:13

Mine's 22 so I've already been through the transition / FE / HE process.

I use this board more than any.

I'd just like to say that while not doubting that SN children and their parents have a rough time, just wait until they hit their teens and post-16 education. It will make the problems with junior school pale into insignificance.

If I had a £1 for every form I've had to fill in since he hit 16 I'd be spending it on a world cruise.

On that dreary note Grin

I look at this section nearly every day even though mine are 12 and 15.
