For the past 3 weeks dd keeps saying I don't want to have special needs anymore.

She said it when I just picked her up from school and ds said if you didn't have sn then u would n't be special. Which although corney from an adult was very sweet to hear from my 7 yr old son.

The hard thing is I can't just say oh I'll take it away.

So would really appreciate from anyone who has been in this situation.

Thanks

no advice BH, but your ds sounds a real sweetie

BH - it's tough isn't it? Dd once said to me that she didn't want to be special 'because special mean't different'.

I suppose it's something they go through as they become more aware of themselves and their limitations and there isn't much you can do but hug them and carry on.

{{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}

I snapped at DS only this morning because he told Amelia she couldn't speak properly and to be quiet!!!He is usually very good, I know, and Amelia really does tease him but at least she is trying to speak.

Wish I had a magic wand BH, I could take it away for your darling DD. Lots of love and support is all can do!

Ah thanks everyone. It is so hard isn't it as you can't take it away.

However I think I have twigged why she is saying it so much. She said to me later on if I don't have special needs can I have sweets. So think in her little mind she is remembering when we went to Bibic and I said that she couldn't have sweets as they made her feel funny inside LOL So she is just worried about not having sweets!

Ah bless. Can you give her special sweets? (gummy bears???)

Blossomhill · 21/09/2005 22:42

Oh what are they Jimjams? I do feel mean as her diet is quiet limited. She can't even have her favourite fruit - oranges as they said her up the wall!!!!!

Have you tried fruit flakes? they come in little sweetie type bags and are dried apple puree mixed with dried fruit purees. No colourings or preservatives or anything like that, though they are high in fruit sugars . this is from the back of the packet:
per 100g - energy 317g
protein 2g
carbs 80g
fat 0.3g

they come in 20g bags, in blackcurrant, tropical and strawberry, or in yoghurt and strawberry, and I've found them in Boots and in the Co-op and Tescos.

if the sugar content isn't too high they might be sweetie-like enough. hope so!
