Over a decade ago you came to Holland
Your ticket to Italy in hand

You had been eagerly waiting to go
To see Rome, and Michelangelo

The plane instead landed in Holland
I know it wasn't what you planned

To you this was new
But I had been waiting for you

You see I am Holland
So I held you by the hand

You were just the one
The very special person

I knew that you would love me
Did I help you to see?

The wonders of this place
The softness of your face

I am glad you are here
I am glad you are near

You love me
Unconditionally

You did not mind that I am slow
The little that I know

The windmills and the tulips
The sails and the ships

This quite place
The soft face

I love to hold your hand
For I am Holland

I quite like that actually, more than the original Holland thing. I do prefer the Welcome to Beiruit one or the Welcome to Schmolland one to the original one as well.

I like the other 'Welcome to..'s because they're cynical and unsentimental but I like this one, Lottie, because it's (not really, but similar to) what my boy's innocence is when he says things like 'I'm so lucky to have you as my mummy because you tickle me and we have fun and other mummies are boring' and 'aren't we lucky that it was me in your tummy and not a horrible daughter' and writes cards calling me the 'speshiallist mummy in the wurld'. I don't find those things cringy, cos it's him saying them, and I don't find your poem cringy for the same reason!

And I would take away my son's autism if possible, to make his life easier. That's why I like Beiruit and Schmolland as they're not so relentlessly upbeat and saying 'oooh, aren't you lucky to have a SN child' but lottie's is nice cos it's the child's perspective, I guess.

I think these poems are all about where you are on the road
I loved holland years ago as it was kind of where I was then, not it just seems yuck
so I can understand why some people like them

Thanks. Bless him, he still believes in Father Christmas, the Tooth Fairy, magic and the wonderfullness of his mother. He has a shock coming...
