Dyslexia

Two days ago I was told through an assessment that my 10 year old son is moderately dyslexic, has fine motor dyspraxia and possibly ADHD.
I have known for a few years that things weren't right but his school was of the opinion that he was naughty and angry and not trying hard enough.
I wish to high heaven that I had listened to my gut feeling and pushed this harder a couple of years ago, but at least I know now.
I know that his current school is right, and due to my career we are either moving to Fleetwood or Chester but not sure yet.
As a single parent I am floundering a bit now and could really do with some advice here - what on earth are my next steps?

Hi cateandzac

You need to identify the underlying cognitive cause of the dyslexia symptom.
There are 3 main Cognitive subtypes of dyslexia : auditory, visual, and attentional.
And from what you have said it could be either the auditory or attentional cognitive issues your son may have.
Each of the different cognitive sup types of dyslexia require different types of support, due the different nature of the these problems.

If it's causing a problem at school you should speak to the SENCO and ask for him to be put on Schools Action and for an IEP to be drawn up to set and monitor targets for improving his ability through support.
